Prometheus unveils Alien origins

Prometheus - Michael Fassbender and his torch
When Alien hit the big screens in 1979 it brought with it perhaps the most fearsome creature from outer-space imaginable, but it also came with a mystery; where did they come from and how the fudge nuts did they manage to take down the big-boy alien creature on the derelict ship that awakens the Nostromo? In Prometheus we will get to see the back story of all this unfold.

The trailers aren’t necessarily giving much away, which should be a good thing when we eventually see Prometheus at the cinema when it’s released on the 30th May 2012, but in general the film follows the crew of the Prometheus as they set off on a mission to unearth the origins of humanity in outer space. Inevitable they don’t find what they’re looking for and the origins of the Alien story begin to unfold in ever sinister proportions.

With Ridley Scott back at the wheels of the darkly brooding sci-fi masterpiece, and new blood acting talent from the likes of Michael Fassbender Prometheus should be as tense as the original. There’s also the might of Charlize Theron (The Road) and Guy Pearce (Momento) to add even more quality to a film that’s shaping up to be one of the big hits of 2012.

When you watch the Prometheus trailer you don’t really get a feel for how much of an impact the film will have on your heart rate, but if the music and sounds are anything to go by it’s going to rip you out of your skin. Just listen to the trailer without watching the tamed-down video and you get a feel for what it’s going to be like at the cinema. With the amplification potential of the 3D production, it’s going to be ramped up to out-of-body proportions.
