Daft Punk Tron Legacy Soundtrack

Tron Legacy Soundtrack, Daft Punk
Having just checked the classic top 40, it doesn't look like Daft Punk's Tron Legacy soundtrack made too much of a dent on the classical music world, but I reckon it should go down in history as one of the finest set of original compositions to grace the classical music world in recent years.

It seems that if it isn't being belted out Mustang Sally style by Russell Watson or featured in a Harry Potter film the classical music community doesn't really want to know. However, luckily for Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter, AKA Daft Punk, they've got dance music listeners fighting their corner, with the album going to number 1 in the UK dance charts.

The Tron Legacy soundtrack is a blend of both worlds though and should have been given credit for being one of the best classical music albums of the year. Instead there are no results for the Tron Legacy soundtrack at all on the Classic FM website. Hopefully, one day it will be appreciated for the brilliant composition of classically based tracks that it is.

Maybe it's the electronic and dance elements of the soundtrack that have kept it out of their line of sight, but that's no excuse in our eyes. While these element aren't all consuming their are a couple of of tracks that are more heavily weighted int heir favour, like The Game Has Changed, End of Line and Derezzed. However, for the most, Daft Punk's Tron Legacy Soundtrack is a flow of strings and horn (all be it of a digital variety).

I can't really think of many situations where the Tron Legacy Soundtrack wouldn't fit in perfectly; a long run, a visit to a new city, a train trip, a road trip, a good book, a hard day at work. The drama, beauty and occasional pace makes everything bigger somehow. Good effort Tommy Daft and Bobby Punk.

4/5
