With a cinematic release date of the 1st July 2011, Transformers 3 is set to bring back Shia LaBeouf as Sam, Josh Duhamel as Major Lennox and John Turturro as Agent Simmons along with many of the rest of the cast from Revenge of the Fallen. Peter Cullen with be returning as the voice of Optimis Prime, perhaps the only thing that was right about the second live action adaptation.

However, the big news is that Megan Fox, frankly the best part of the first film and one of the many flaws in the second, will not be returning as Sam’s girlfriend Mikeala. Both sides of the fence are apparently adamant that it was there decision, but either way, she’s out of the third and final instalment.

The good news is that she is to be replaced as Sam’s love interest by British supermodel Rosie Huntington-Whitely. With her other big job being the Victoria’s Secret model, maybe she’ll be able to top Megan’s car mechanic moment. But with the poshest name on the runway, I doubt it’ll be quite as monkey wrench as Fox’s big moment.

Hopefully they do a better job with Transformers Dark Side of the Moon than they did with Revenge of the Fallen. As it’s going to be the last of the Transformers films, they need to pull out all the stops to live up to the genius of the cartoon. If there’s a shaw way to achieve this, it’ll be with the addition of the Dinobots, which were a class late insertion to the original cartoons, although it doesn’t look likely.

With the runaway success of the 3D movie machine thanks to the might of Avatar, Transformers 3 will be released in Real D 3D cinemas, as well as in IMAX 3D. Filming is now underway, and director, Michael Bray, has hinted that the third film will be darker than the first two, which can only be a good thing after the laughable (at, not with) second film.

Transformers 3 (2011) movie release date, trailer & cast

With the excellent Transformers (2007) still strong in everyone’s mind and the lamentable Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (2009) thankfully a distant memory now, the news that Transformers 3 (2011) has been confirmed for production could be met with either bated breath or an internal groan.
