There's only the two of them up on the stage, Holly Ross on guitar & vocals and David Blackwell on drums and vocals, so you don't really expect too much noise, but like a gender inverted, Lancastrian White Stripes, they're deceptive. There's a significant element of pop to the music, but this is pierced brilliantly with overdrive guitar, smashing drums and loud calls of People Are Tw**ts, which is hard to argue with.
Songs like I Like Birds (But I Like Other Animals Too) from they're first album, mix in well with Don't Look At Me (I Don't Like It), which sounds much more gnarled live than on new album Cob Dominos. The new album is a massive sprawl of different songs, so if you can't find one that you think is class… Eat…
After the second time seeing The Lovely Eggs, I reckon they're ace live. They've got much more music than before and they sound a lot bigger too (ca ca coo, ca ca coo, ca ca coo coo), which is the way it should be for Lovely Eggs. They're next gigs in the UK aren't until June, July and August, with the Long Division Festival, The Aire Do Festival and the Just So Festival, but if you're in Germany next week then you might get to see them before then. You can check them out for yourselves at
