Paul McCartney played a lunchtime gig at the 100 Club over the weekend to give a little help to the ailing club. The news that the 100 Club is about to close has been met with a lot of support from the likes of Bobby Gillespie and Mick Jagger and now the former Beatle has added his voice to the campaign to save the club.
Playing the smallest gig he's performed in a while, McCartney put on a two hour set in front of around 300 people to add much needed weight to the campaign to save the club.
With rising rent in the centre of London, the Oxford Street venue has been struggling for a number of years now and it was recently announced that it would be closing in the New Year. However, this will be averted if the club can find a sponsor, funder or buyer can be found to take on the project of making the 100 Club work once again.
The biggest challenge for the club is bringing in enough revenue to cover the high rent, rates and taxes that are come with the location. However, much greater awareness will probably go a long way to help achieve this, so the added help from Paul McCartney gives the campaign to save the club a much needed boost.
