The Pacific (HBO) - Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks are back again with their latest war inspired epic
Following on from the success of their previous collaborations, Saving Private Ryan and Band of Brothers, Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks have returned with their new offering The Pacific (HBO). Another Second World War epic, this time centring around the United States’ battle with the Japanese, it’s bound to be an absolute smash considering the fact that Band of Brothers has since become the highest selling TV DVD of all time.
Along with Tom Hanks, Gary Goetzman (I don’t know who he is either - oh although he apparently produced Where the Wild Things Are) and Steven Spielberg at the executive producers’ helm, and some stunt work by an unfortunate chap called Jarrah Cocks, the mini-saga also boasts a raft of rising stars, including Isabel Lucas (stalker girl from Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen + she was also in Home and Away back int’ day) and Joseph Mazzello (he played little Tim in Jurassic Park).
The ten part mini-series tells the interrelated stories of three US Navy Marines during the ferocious battles with the Japanese in the Pacific.
The Pacific will be shown on Sky Movies Premier/HD in spring 2010, with a likely summer release for the DVD. Having seen the trailer, I’m not all that keen, but I guess we’ll have to wait and see.
