HK Diner, Bristol – A bit random, but ace none the less

HK Diner, Bristol
Me Mam’s birthday and she happens to be down at my sister’s in Bristol, so we head into Park St to find somewhere for birthday dinner. HK Diner felt like a random choice to begin with, but as the food started to hit the table, the decision suddenly became inspired.

A good atmosphere and cheerful service made the place perfect, and the owner even came over for a bit of a chat (wearing a Chelsea t-shirt didn’t help his cause, but his brilliant banter definitely did). I randomly decided to get a pot of Chinese tea for a drink, which I hadn’t had before, and it turned out to be amazing.

Highlights included the crispy duck wraps & plum sauce that we started with, the noodle dishes and the Kueh Dada for desert, which was a sweet coconut filled pancake with amazing sauce drizzled on top.  We had three courses & drinks for £52, so it was pretty good value too.

While there’s a mix of Chinese and Malaysian dishes, they seem to work well together. Perfect place for family or friends dinners out. It’s not very romantic, so maybe not the best place for a date, but you’d probably earn a few brownie points if you took your other half.

4.4/5
