The Callas, live at Indie Tracks Festival 2010

The Callas were the surprise act of this year's Indie Tracks Festival. When they stepped out on the dim confines of the Indoor Stage all wearing shades, my expectations took a downward dip, but when they started to play, their music made it all sort of work.

While the Velvet Underground influence is glaring, songs like Lipstick, with a sound not too dissimilar to some of the songs from The Kills’ Midnight Boom, and the short stomper 1,2,3,4 HereWeGoDownToTheFloor made them stand out from a lot of other bands at the festival.

Though they are fundamentally formed by brothers Lakis and Aris Iwnas, the addition of their "Callasette" female vocalist gives them more dimensions and adds a lot to their live performance.  I’m pretty sure she’s the singer of the music video below.
