Nintendo Wii 2
Back in May last year we talked about the potential of the next generation games console war kicking off in 2012 and the announcement of the Nintendo Wii 2 last week seems to confirm all of the expectation. Tech data is thin on the ground at the moment, but the implication is that ATI will once again produce the goods with the Graphics Processing Unit (GPU).

The first preview of the Nintendo Wii 2 will be coming soon if everything moves according to the 2012 blueprint that Nintendo are supposed to have set out for themselves. For anyone that remembers the launch of the Nintendo 64, Nintendo Gamecube or the Nintendo Wii, the anticipation has always been about the gameplay of the console.

More precisely, the revelations have always been around the potential of the controller to deliver a new experience of game playing. The analogue joystick on the Nintendo 64 controller and then the motion censors on the Nintendo Wii controller were the big talking points for their respective round of the next generation games console war and I expect it'll be a similar story for the Wii 2.

While there have been no images, video trailers or specific global release date information as of yet from Nintendo, the ceil has been broken and it's only a matter of time before more is released about the Nintendo Wii 2, so watch this space. The talk from Nintendo is about a new way of playing computer games, so who knows how far they'll push the button. Touch screen, multifunctional controller? 3D vision computer gaming as seen on the Nintendo 3DS? Wristband controller and holodeck simulation? We'll have to wait and see, but it's probably going to be big.

What was once the Nintendo Wii 2 has now been unveiled as the Nintendo Wii U. Click on the link to get the full details.
