Essentially Foer has spent a whole year emerging himself in the world of memory champions to test his own memory skills. He talks to memory experts, neuroscientists, amnesiacs, chess masters and savants in a bid to find out if he can improve his own memory capabilities too.
Moonwalking with Einstein: The Art and Science of Remembering Everything takes Joshua Foer on a trip up memory lane to pitting his wits against the best in the U.S. Memory Championship. The book also showcases some of the most impressive feats of memory that can be achieved, including people who can recite pi to ten-thousand decimal places, shuffle a deck of cards and memorise the entire deck card for card in under an hour and motorise the occurrences of 92 different historical dates in 5 minutes.
I'm just hoping that the book will have enough tips to stop me from going to make a cup of tea in work, going for a pee and then going back to my desk without a brew for me or anyone else that I was supposed to get one for. Moonwalking with Einstein: The Art and Science of Remembering Everything will be released on 7th April 2011.
