With the cost of household energy becoming more intrusive on household spending, fuel poverty (relating to households that have to spend more than 10% of their income just to keep warm) has also been raised as a core target of the bill, however, the coalition under the banner Demand a Better Bill feel that the government need to go further than the current plan for the bill.
The coalition includes the WWF, Friends of the Earth, National Union of Students, RSPB, CAFOD, Climate and Health Council, ASDA, M&S, B&Q… It's a big list! To improve the Energy Bill, they have put together the Demand a Better Bill website, which contain more information, along with a form to email your MP to lend your voice to the campaign.
The group's biggest argument is that the bill does not currently set out targets that it will aim to deliver; for example, they are looking to push the government to commit to a minimum 42% cut in carbon emissions by 2012, along with the elimination of fuel poverty in the next 5 years. Click on the link below to add your support and fill in the form to email your MP to help to push the government for more action.
