Earlier in April (2012) Woody Allen’s latest film, To Rome With Love, premiered and received a full release in Italy, and this weekend the film opens in the US. However, no UK release date wasn’t announced until just before the vignette encrusted Roman love fest hit the cinema.
Either, the film was awaiting figures in the US box office before committing to a UK release date, or they were just biding their time. The idea of a straight to DVD plan luckily didn’t come to pass in the end.
The film has got a pretty impressive all star cast including Woody Allen himself, Penelope Cruz, Alberto Benigni, Alec Baldwin, Jesse Eisenberg and Greta Gerwig. If To Rome With Love can repeat what Midnight in Paris did then it should be impressing US and UK audiences as much as it did in Italy when it was first released.
The film is split into four parts or vignettes which include Baldwin”s character returning to the Rome of his youth with his wife, Alberto Benigni is mistaken for a famous star, and Eisenberg and Gerwig take in the addition of the free-spirited Ellen Page.
