While Wonder Women isn’t scheduled to arrive on the big screen in the UK until the 1st June 2017, a day earlier than its release in the US, there are a few lucky individuals that have seen the film and the good news is that the review scores are looking good. No one is being over the top in their praise as of yet, with a few hints that the film isn’t perfect, but it is being lauded with a number of positive comments that would imply that it’s the best film from DC in recent years:
Very pleased to report that #WonderWoman is the best DC movie since THE DARK KNIGHT. I’m already looking forward to seeing it again.

Having had the disappointment of Suicide Squad and Batman vs. Superman: Dawn Of Justice, it’s welcome news to see so much praise for the latest film from DC. It’s definitely too early to tell, but it could be a good early sign that Justice League may well land better with critics than its predecessors.
The initial critical response was spearheaded by Peter Sciretta, editor and owner of Slash Film, with postive comments about the amount of comedy and action that has been crammed into the film:
I can finally tell you.. Wonder Woman is a very good film. Funnier, more action packed than you’re probably expecting. Gal is perfect as WW!

However, the question is whether or not this implies that it’s starting to become a bit more like Marvel, which has corned the market on funny superhero action movies over the last ten years or so. For any DC fans concerned that it might have lost the unique identity in the process, Mike Ryan of Uproxx gives some indication that the old DC comics ethos is back with comparisons to Christopher Reeves’ Superman of the 1970s and 80s:
Loved WONDER WOMAN. She reminds me of Christopher Reeve’s Superman: true north superhero w/ no angst or cynicism, which is needed right now.

Yet more praise came from Adam B. Vary, senior film reporter for Buzzfeed News, who is pretty gushing about Wonder Woman‘s romance, action and comedy credentials:
Happy — no, RELIEVED — to report that #WonderWoman is truly good. Funny, stirring, kick-ass, romantic. A solid, entertaining superhero film.

According to Terry Schwartz, IGN entertainment editor, Gal Gadot’s performance as Wonder Woman is one of the big reason’s for the film’s success and as she’s also a big part of Justice League, it adds to the prospect of the 2nd DC release this year:
I can finally share my thoughts on #WonderWoman! I really loved it; it’s not perfect, but its charms won me over. @GalGadot is WONDERful.
