If you’ve just made it to the end of Willow Episode 4, you might want to know who sings the end credits song, Black Hole Sun. Obviously, it’s a cover of a much earlier track, but it’s a very good one with a similar pace to the original, but stripped back to just keys and vocals.
The Black Hole Sun cover is by Seattle singer Nouella and you can listen to the track in full with the video below. Apparently, it’s good quality, whatever that means, and in all fairness it is, but it’s definitely a slightly strange thing to write at the end of the title for your old song.
AdvertisementMaybe there were a load of knockoff uploads on YouTube or something, but either way it’s definitely a strong cover. It also sounds like a nice one to learn to play on piano, so for any aspiring musicians out there you can see a tutorial on playing Black Hole Sun at the bottom of the page.

Listen to the end credits song for Willow Episode 4
AdvertisementNouela’s cover of Black Hole Sun goes all the way back to 2014, so good effort on the part of the Disney+ production for finding it and adding it at the end of episode. It’s one of a number of covers that she’s recorded, with other gems including The Sound of Silence by Simon and Garfunkel.
However, she’s also created her own album, Chants in 2012, which is probably going to get a lot more interest following the addition of Black Hole Sun in the end credits of the Willow TV show. It’s an indie rock record with Nouela playing all of the instruments and doing the vocals, so it’s about as much of a one woman show as it gets, which fits the focus of Episode 4 where Elora really came into her powers.

All of the music, including the song from Willow Episode 4, is available to buy from iTunes or Bandcamp if you want to add it to your collection. She hasn’t recorded any of her own new music since the single Nobody in 2016, but she featured on song House of Cards by Massivity in 2017.
Hopefully, the Willow feature will inspire a big batch of news tracks in the not so distant future. Fairytale of New York gets our shout for songs to cover over the holidays and then a stripped back version of Just Like Honey by The Jesus and Mary Chain.
The original version of the song
If you’re a whole lot younger than the average bear then you might not know the original version of the song. Black Hole Sun was a huge hit for Soundgarden back in the 1990s, written by lead singer Chris Cornell for their fourth studio album, Superunknown.

It was written and recorded in Seattle, so the links to Nouela are close to home for the song. Crazily, it only made it to number 12 in the UK charts back in 1994, but it was #1 on the US BIllboard Rock chart, which meant it got a lot of plays on MTV.
It had a surreal dreamscape music video featuring the band playing on the background of a blue sky with psychedelic rolling hills and doomsday extras. The face stretching visuals were a big part of the darker tone of the video, despite its vivid colors.
Black Hole Sun piano tutorial
If you’re looking to play the song for yourself on piano you can start with the tutorial below. It’s got a whole lot more notes than Nouela’s version at the end of Willow, so you’ll need to strip most of them out.
