The Mandalorian Season 3 Episode 4 had a lot of back story cuts cenes, so you might be wondering who the Jedi is that takes Grogu to rescue him from on Coruscant. The whole thing takes place in the very first of the flashbacks and it sees Grogu being evacuated from the Jedi Temple as the might of Order 66 attempts to wipe them out completely.
The trigger for the flashback is the scene with the Armorer, who is using the forge to craft a new piece of Beskar armor for Grogu. The pounding block reminds him of the doors being forced open by Troopers, who decimate most of the young Jedi before he can be taken to an elevator.
AdvertisementThe last remaining Jedi is shot as the doors close, so Grogu gets to the top alone, but a Jedi Master is waiting for him at the top. More Troopers appear, so they’re forced to flee on a speeder and eventually make it to safety and you can check out the details below to find out who the Jedi Master is.

Who is the Jedi Master in The Mandalorian Season 3 Episode 4?
You might have missed it, but the officers that the Jedi Master takes Grogu to say his name and it’s mentioned earlier in Episode 4 of the third season. It’s Kelleran Beq and there’s going to be a few of you that recognize the name from a lesser known TV show called Star Wars Jedi Temple Challenge.

In fact, it’s not just the same character, but Beq is played by the same actor in both the show and in The Mandalorian. It’s Ahmed Best, who also has the illustrious credit of starring in the prequel trilogy as the voice of Jar Jar Binks.
AdvertisementLuckily, he sounds a whole lot different in The Mandalorain and Temple Challenge, which was a kids game show. It came out in 2020 and aired on the Star Wars Kids website and YouTube channel and it saw contestants testing their padawan skills in a series of three challenges.
Their aim was to become Jedi Knights, and be given the prize of a lightsaber, but with the addition of the character in the 4th episode of Season 3, we now have a new canon Jedi Master to add to the ranks. We’re expecting a few more flashback in the coming episodes, so we should get to see more of the character before the end of the series.
You can see Beq pictured above, as well as in the poster for Star Wars Jedi Temple Challenge below. With four more episodes still to go in the latest season of The Mandalorian, we should get to see the character again in the very least.
Where does he take Grogu and will we see Jedi Master Kelleran Beq again?
The flashback in Episode 4 (Chapter 20) ended in a way that hinted at more story still to come. We know that we go on to find Grogu in the hands of Nikto criminals at the very start of the series, so it would be good to see how they managed to get him from the safety of Kelleran Beq.
AdvertisementLogic doesn’t bode well for the character if you follow that path, because we haven’t seen Beq in any of the other episodes. The only possible “happy” solution is that whoever was behind the Nikto mercenaries imprisoned him when they took Grogu and he’s been languishing there ever since.
It’s a long shot, but it could be a possibility. It would be a bit of a waste to introduce a new Jedi Master at this stage only to kill him off a few episodes later. There’s definitely an element of emotional gravitas to Beq being killed and adding to Grogu’s post traumatic stress, but it would still feel like a waste.

The only positive for Beq still being around is that the show doesn’t really have that much direction at the moment. It’s sort of meandering with a number of different things happening without any clear path. Grogu remembering Beq and wanting to find him could be a part of this, as well as the whole Mythosaur and Pershing arcs that are going on.
It feels like The Mandalorian Season 3 needs more than 4 episodes to tie everything up together, so the next installment is going to have to be a big one. With Grogu’s flashbacks, Pershing stuck in a Mind Flayer and Bo-Katan pondering the beast at the bottom of the Living Waters of Mand’alor it’s all to play for.
