When will Willow Season 2 come out on Disney Plus?

When will Willow Season 2 come out on Disney Plus?

If you’ve just finished the exciting climax of the opening eight episodes then you’ll want to know when Willow Season 2 will come out on Disney+. The tease of the second chapter in the series comes right at the end as one book is returned to the shelf next to another two chapters.

Will there be a Season 2 of Willow on Disney+?

It looks like it. The implication is that the first volume represents Season 1 and the second and third volume shows that it’s going to be a trilogy. The Willow TV series is produced for Disney+ by LucasFilm, which has got a long history trilogy action behind them, so it definitely makes sense.

However, it’s easy to miss the post-credits scene featuring the three books, so if you didn’t see it you might want to head on back to Disney+ to watch it for yourself to see what we’re talking about. It lands just as the final bars of the closing song, Money For Nothing by Dire Straights, kick on, so it’s easy to skip ahead to.

If that isn’t enough, there’s also the action before the credits, which was another big hint that there was going to be a second season for the Willow TV series. If you haven’t seen the final episode yet, you might want to come back afterwards, so get to see it all for yourself.

For everyone else, the key scene takes place just after Willow, Elora Danan and the rest of the adventurers walk away from the nightmare that was Immemorial City. For them, they have defeated The Crone and saved Airk, but lost Graydon in the battle, so it’s a bitter sweet ending.

However, the next scene shows that Graydon didn’t die as such, but has been captured by what we think is the Wyrm itself. He wakes up among slain warriors on a battle field and gets up to explore. It’s a similar scene to the dream Willow has about the future where Elora Danan seems to die in order to defeat the evil forces of The Wyrm.

However, here it’s Graydon that finds Elora Danan, who tells him that it’s the end, the beginning, the dawn of the next age and that she needs him by her side. We’re pretty sure this is actually meant to be The Wyrm in disguise and that Willow Season 2 will see him in thrall to the alternate Elora, similar to the way that Airk was to The Crone in her Lili guise.

With all of that, it seems pretty likely that we’ll get Season 2 of Willow on Disney+, but there hasn’t been an official announcement from them or Lucasfilm as of yet. We’ll keep you updated on things here.

When will Willow Season 2 come out?

If we assume that all of this is enough to point to a second season for the Willow TV series then the big question is when will it come out. With no official word from Disney as of yet, we can only base things on the usual run of things in terms of other big series for the massive streaming service.

For example, the gap between Season 1 and 2 of one of Disney Plus’ biggest series to date, The Mandalorian, was less than a year. If you take that and apply it to Willow we could well see Volume 2 arriving in time for the winter holidays 2023. That feels like a bit of a stretch right now, so maybe Easter 2024 gives Lucasfilm a little more time to get things done.

It’s worth noting that the gap for Season 3 of the Mandalorian is nearly two and a half years, but a big part of that was probably the slightly busy schedule of Pedro Pascal. The biggest star in Willow is Warwick Davis, who doesn’t appear to have many other projects, so it looks like he’s going to be dedicated to Season 2. This would reduce the chance of slow down due to other commitment, but if you’re looking for a pessimistic view on when the next volume will be coming to Disney+, you’re looking at winter hols 2024 at the latest.

Another big example that supports the longer view is the Loki TV series, which first aired in June 2021. Season 2 is expected to come out some time in 2023, so that would give it a two year gap, which could translate over for Willow, giving the production the time it needs to live up to fan expectations.

The first season has got good reviews and if you go on the assumption that this means good viewing figures too it sort of makes sense to land well with the next season. This will then set things up for a massive finale with Willow Season 3 in 2026-27 and then maybe Warwick will get an Ewok series to follow it up. Wouldn’t that be a win.
