If you’re enjoying The Mandalorian Season 3 as much as we are, you might start looking ahead at when the Ahsoka TV series will come out on Disney+. It’s the next Star Wars TV series in line and the character made a great introduction in The Mandalorian Season 2, so it could be another great show.
Ahsoka was first introduced as Anakin Skywalker’s Padawan apprentice in the animated TV series, Star Wars The Clone Wars. We all know how things went with Darthy-V, so by the time we see her in Season 2 of The Mandalorian she’s a bit of a loner.
AdvertisementHowever, if you’ve seen The Book of Boba Fett on Disney+ then you’ll know that she’s a part of Luke Skywalker’s fold and she’s there with him when he’s training Grogu to be a Jedi. Baby Yoda goes on to return to Din when he gets his Bescar chain mail jacket, but the connection to Luke should still be there for the TV series.
The first trailer for the show has recently arrived and you can check it out for yourself in the section at the bottom of the page. The assumption is that the show will take place after the events of The Mandalorian Season 2 and The Book of Boba Fett. There are bound to be some flashback scenes too showing what Ahsoka has been doing since she parted ways with Anakin after the Clone Wars.
As it’s a Disney+ original series, Ahsoka will be exclusive to the streaming platform. This means that if you want to watch it then you need to be a subscriber. For example, you can’t watch The Mandalorian anywhere else, even to buy it, and there’s no DVD, Blu-ray or 4 options either.

Disney+ release date
AdvertisementThe arrival of the trailer has confirmed the Ahsoka will be coming to Disney+ in the UK and North America in August 2023. Previously, the only reference to a date for the series was a note on the Disney Plus page saying that it’s “Coming Soon”. This didn’t really tell us a great deal, but there was alreadt more to go on from the current schedule for The Mandalorian Season 3 and past release dates.

The fact that there are more episodes to go in the show, so that took out a good chunk of time for the next few weeks. It takes us up to April 19th, so in the very least we knew that it will be after that when Ahsoka will come out on Disney Plus.
Before the third season of The Mandalorian we had Andor, which arrived on the streaming network in September. This is a gap of a little over five months, so if you track this forward for the Ahsoka TV series then we were looking at September 2023.
However, before Andor we had the Obi Wan Kenobi TV series, which began in May 2022. This gives us a gap to Andor of nearly four months and before that there was The Book of Boba Fett, which streamed on Disney+ around five months earlier, so that gives us a likely 4-5 month gap.
AdvertisementThe problem with this is that there are two Star Wars TV series coming to Disney+ in 2023 with Skeleton Crew assumed to follow Ahsoka later in the year. If the latter streamed in September that didn’t leave a great deal of time for a gap leading up to Skeleton Crew, possibly in December.
While September was a contender for the series, another option was for it to go for a similar timeline as Obi Wan Kenobi last year. That would have meant that Ashoka would come to Disney Plus in May or June, giving it a summer window to land well, but as it turns out they’ve decided to split the difference with the August release.

If it was our call, what we’d do is launch Skeleton Crew in May or June and save Ahsoka for the big winter holidays period, because the character is more well known. The fact that it looks like it’s going to be the other way around hints at something big for Skeleton Crew, so we’re expecting some huge name reveals to go with Jude Law as the lead character.
Will Ahsoka come out on Netflix, Hulu or Amazon Prime?
As mentioned above, Ahsoka is a Disney+ original series, so it will not be available on either Netflix of Amazon Prime. In fact, you probably won’t even be able to buy it on DVD, Blu-ray or 4K if it follows the same approach as The Mandalorian.
AdvertisementIf you’re a Hulu subscriber, you won’t get the Ahsoka TV series to stream as part of your standard package. However, if you’ve got the the Disney Bundle then this will give you access to Disney Plus.
As a result, all of the details above in terms of when it will come out on the streaming service will apply. If you haven’t got it you can add it to your subscription with the bundle and this will unlock the whole shebang.
Will there be any Ahsoka extras or special features on Disney+?
You usually get some pretty good extras and special features with films that come to Disney+, especially if they’re from Marvel or Avatar. However, this isn’t the case for Star Wars TV series, so we’re not expecting any exciting extras or special features to be available with Ahsoka.
It’s a shame, because the content is bound to exist, but there’s no behind the scenes footage for The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, Obi-Wan Kenobi or Andor. It’s possible that Disney will twig and put things together for the Ahsoka TV series, but at the moment it’s pretty unlikely.

Ahsoka TV series trailer
Having seen the trailer, we’re pretty excited about the prospect of Ahsoka, especially with it coming out as early as August 2023. It looks like there are going to be a lot of talking points, but it had us at the dark one-line intro, “something’s coming”.
That something is revealed half-way through the trailer when we see the return of Grand Admiral Thrawn. The Star Wars Rebels villain hasn’t been seen since he disappeared in the show, but he’s back now and probably badder than ever.

He had a name check recently in The Mandalorian Series 3 Episode 7 and he appears to be linked to the shadow council of the former Empire, which includes Moff Gideon. They also talked about something called Project Necromancer and you can read more about this with the link above.
We’re expecting to find out a little more about the project in the final episode of The Mandalorian S3. However, it’s possible that it will be saved for Ahsoka to truly delve under the hood of the dark plans that Gideon and the shadow council have for the Galaxy.
