The good news is that Disney Plus is finally on its way to the UK in March 2020, but it won’t launch straight away with Star Wars The Rise Of Skywalker available time stream. However, it will have every other Star Wars film, including Episode VIII The Last Jedi, so the final part of the Skywalker saga clearly won’t be too far behind it, so here’s the latest on the release date on the Disney streaming service.
While no official launch date has been announced as of yet, there’s a lot to go on in terms of when it is due to arrive in the UK. Disney Plus will be available over here on the 24th March 2020, but with the film only recently out in cinemas and a UK DVD, Blu-ray and digital release on the 20th April, there’s bound to be a delay until it goes on to be available to stream.
The delay should be similar to other big Disney releases, which should give us a good ball park target of when to expect The Rise Of Skywalker to arrive. You can find out more about the Rise Of Skywalker UK DVD, Blu-ray, digital, rental and 4K release date at www.tuppencemagazine.co.uk/star-wars-the-rise-of-skywalker-dvd-blu-ray-digital-rental-4k-ultra-hd-release-date-uk/ or see more on the film at https://www.starwars.com/films/star-wars-episode-ix-the-rise-of-skywalker.
When have other big film releases gone on to stream on Disney Plus?
As Disney Plus is still in its infancy, the movie world is still getting used to the new-world release schedule to take streaming into account as well as cinema and home entertainment. The biggest new film to get the Disney Plus treatment is Avengers Endgame, which had a cinema release in April last year, followed by DVD, Blu-ray, 4K and Digital in August before going on to launch with the Disney+ service in the US on November 12th.
That’s just a little under three months after the home entertainment release and just shy of six months from when it came out on the big screen. It was a similar story with both The Lion King and Aladdin live action adaptations, so it looks like the new norm will be a wait of around five and a half to six months from cinema release to Disney Plus streaming.
If you take the Avengers Endgame example and track things forwards for Star Wars The Rise Of Skywalker, you’re looking at a launch on D+ in June in both the UK and the rest of the territories that it’s available in. We’ll have to wait for Disney to confirm things, but that gives a good idea of roughly when to expect it.

What about Star Wars The Rise Of Skywalker special features
The down side to just waiting for the Disney Plus stream of Episode IX is that they don’t usually include all of the special features. Instead, the only way to watch these will be on either the Blu-ray, 4K or HD digital formats of the home entertainment release. If you want to get the full experience with behind the scenes footage and making of bonus content then you’re better off plumping for one of these.
