With the recent release date for Black Panther 2 Wakanda Forever on the big screen, here’s our look ahead at when the sequel will come out on Disney+. It’s the only Marvel Cinematic Universe film that came out in the latter half of 2022 and it closed out Phase 4 entirely before Ant-Man and the Wasp Quantumania kicks things off with Phase 5 and the introduction of Kang.
The latest trailer for Wakanda Forever is the first to showcase the new Black Panther in any kind of detail. We don’t want to give too much away about who exactly stars in the role, but the frame definitely points to a female casting and you can check out the links at the bottom of the page for our post on who that might be.
AdvertisementIt’s both an exciting development and a sad reminder of the loss of Chadwick Boseman, who died from Colon Cancer in 2020. They’re big boots to fill, but the trailer does a good job of remembering the star and sadly passing the baton on to keep the inspirational character within the MCU.

Disney+ release date
The Black Panther 2 Wakanda Forever Disney+ release date has now been confirmed for the 1st of February 2023. The unusually long gap between cinema and streaming on Disney is probably to to the impact of the holiday period and the success of the film at the box office.

Initially, there were two possibilities in terms of when it’ll come to Disney+. The first was that it might have been made available around the 25th December 2022 giving the service a chance to bank a chunk of new subscribers during the seasonal spend period. That date came and went without any coming soon addition to Disney+, and we now know that option 2 was the winner.
AdvertisementClearly, Disney had enough in the can to cover holiday growth and will stream it in the new year to give Black Panther 2 a long run in cinemas. Both dates were pretty lucrative. However, if you look at the key examples from last year it was always likely that it’ll be 2023 before we get to see Wakanda Forever on the platform.
The last two MCU films to come out in cinemas in 2022 were Eternals on the 5th November 2022 and then Spider-Man No Way Home on the 16th December. Obviously, Spider-Man didn’t arrive on Disney+ until after Christmas, but you might think that Eternals did, but that’s not the case.
Spidey was caught up in a Sony contract thing and isn’t available on Disney+. However, rights were 100% in the bag for Eternals, but it still didn’t become available to stream until mid-January 2022.
The cinematic release date for Black Panther 2 Wakanda Forever was the 12th November 2022, so it’s around a week later than Eternals last year. If you track that forward with a similar timeline then you should be looking at late January and it has now been confirmed for the 1st February 2023, so our projections were pretty close.
AdvertisementIt’s easy to see why director and writer Ryan Coogler would have wanted to give his film as much time as possible on the big screen before home media. It’s a strategy that worked very well for both Spider-Man No Way Home and Top Gun 2 Maverick, so it makes a lot of sense for his sequel.

With that in might, the most likely date for the Disney+ launch was around the mid-term holidays in the US, which will generally coincide with half-term hols in the UK. The means that the first or second week of February 2023 were good contenders for the release date and the former has gone on to be the case.
Black Panther was hugely successful at the box office and the trailers look impressive (with the exception of the weird wings on Namor’s Nikes). The longer cinema run for Wakanda Forever has built a lot of anticipation for the debut on Disney+ and the timing for the mini holidays will only add to the success for the streaming service.
Admittedly, it had some big competition to face from Avatar 2 Way of the Water when it came out on the 16th December 2022, but it still has decent box office figures well into January 2022.

Will Black Panther Wakanada Forever come out on Hulu?
If you’re a Hulu subscriber in North America then you might be wondering whether or not Black Panther 2 Wakanda Forever will be available to stream online for the service. The short answer is no, not on the base subscription, but if you have the Disney Bundle then this will give you access to Disney+ through Hulu.
With this, all of the details above for the film will count and it’ll come out on the service bundle on February 1st, 2023. If you don’t have the Disney Bundle, you can upgrade to it to make sure you don’t miss out.
