Introduction
Ant-Man 3 will introduce the next big bad of the MCU, Kang the Conqueror, who is on the warpath for a way out of the Quantum Realm. Disney+ has already had the release of Black Panther Wakanda Forever and it should be getting Avatar 2 in the not too distant future, so it looks like another good year for subscribers.
AdvertisementPeyton Reed is back in the director’s chair and he had his biggest challenge yet, kick starting so much for the future of the Avengers franchise. The previous Ant-Man films have had a lot of comedy and that’s still the case with Quantumania, but it’s never had such a big villain, which has added to the anticipation for it to come to Disney+.
Things have become more complicated, though, with the recent arrest of Jonathan Majors in New York for suspected assault, which has resulted in his US Army advertisements being pulled while the situation is ongoing. You can read more details about the arrest over on Majors’ Wikipedia page.

Reviews for the film have been mixed too, which could well diminish the anticipation for the streaming timeline. The box office results weren’t as high as expected either, but there still appears to be a lot of interest in getting to see the film on Disney Plus.
You can find out more about the film, including the cast details and age rating, with the links at the bottom of the page. Ant-Man and the Wasp Quantumania will then be followed by Guardians of the Galaxy 3, the next MCU film of 2023, in May and The Marvels later in 2023, so there’s still more to look forward to from Marvel Studios this year.
Disney Plus release date
AdvertisementThe Ant-Man and the Wasp Quantumania Disney Plus release date has now been confirmed to be May 17th, 2023, but there was already a lot to go on before the official annoucement. If you look at the likes of Black Panther Wakanda Forever there was already a fairly good model for it to follow.

It arrived on the big screen on the 9th November 2022 and didn’t go on to get its Disney+ release date until February 1st 2023. If you take that as a good projection for Ant-Man 3, which came out on February 17th, 2023 then we were looking at early May for it to come out on Disney+, which is in line with the official release date.
The counter argument for this was that Black Panther 2 had more favorable reviews across the board, which lent itself to a longer run in cinemas. Peyton Reed’s third film in the “watch out for the little guy” saga has had more of a mixed response, so that could have shortened the release gap between cinema and home entertainment.
That being said, Eternals hit the big screen back in early November 2021 and also had mixed reviews, plus it’s a good sci-fi comparison, so another good comparison. It still had a long run before going on to be available to stream in mid-January 2022, which is a little over two months, and would have only brought Quantumania forward by a week or so.
AdvertisementReviews aren’t everything either. Avatar The Way of Water had its detractors, but it has still gone on to have a long cinematic run and smashed it at the box office. Ant-man and the Wasp Quantumania didn’t land anywhere near as big, but our best projection was still around May for it to come to Disney+.

The other thing to look for to narrow the date down is a holiday period, which is when there are more viewers with free time to watch the film. The problem here is that the estimates for Ant-Man 3 are between the Easter holidays, which was too early, and the summer half term, which would be a bit too late.
What we knew for sure was that the film became available to buy digitally with early access on April 18th, 2023 in North America, before it comes out on DVD, Blu-ray and 4K on May 16th, 2023. It’s also available to buy digitally with early access in UK, and the rest of the home media release will follow on May 22nd, 2023 on the European side of the Atlantic. With similar international release dates being the norm for Disney+ we were expecting it to be available on the streaming platform in both territories in between the two.
However, Avatar The Way of Water is another contender to come to Disney Plus around that time, so maybe this means that the James Cameron sci-fi epic will be even later. We’ll keep you posted here on the latest when it’s confirmed.

Will Ant-Man and the Wasp Quantumania come out on Netflix, Hulu or Amazon Prime?
AdvertisementThe short answer is that most of these are Disney+ competitors, so Ant-Man and the Wasp Quantumania won’t be coming to the likes of Netflix, Apple TV or Amazon Prime Video’s subscription service. As with other big Disney brands, it will be exclusive to the steaming platform.
The exception for Amazon is that it also has the store side of the business, so you will be able to rent or buy the film there when it comes out. It’s a similar story for other online store options like iTunes, Google Play and YouTube’s movie service.

On the other hand, if you’ve got Hulu in the States then you’ll have the option to get the Disney Bundle, which bolts in Disney Plus to your package for a fee. If this is already in your subscription then the details above for when Ant-Man 3 will come out on Disney+ will be the case here too.

Will the bonus extras and special features be available on Disney Plus?
AdvertisementIf you’ve seen the details for the digital release (see link above for DVD, Blu-ray and digital) then you’ll know that there will be over two hours of bonus extras and special features bundled with Ant-Man and the Wasp Quantumania. If you’re wondering whether or not this will be available when it streams on Disney Plus, the answer is highly likely.
For example, the last big Marvel film to arrive on the platform was Black Panther Wakanda Forever and you can access all of the bonus material from the movie page on Disney+ by clicking on the Extras tab. If you want to know more about the special features on Ant-Man 3, you can see them below:
- All In The Family – the Lang-Pym clan discuss their characters in the films and how they’ve evolved over the three films.

- Audio Commentary – from director Peyton Reed and writer Jeff Loveness.
