If you’re hooked in for the Kris Kringle smash fest that is Violent Night then you might be looking forward to the UK DVD, Blu-ray and digital release date. The film is out on the big screen on the 2nd December 2022, so it obviously won’t be out in time for the real Big Man this year, but it shouldn’t be too far behind it, especially early access digital.
If you don’t know the story yet, the general gist is that David Harbor (Stranger Things) takes on the role of the most unlikely of action heroes, Santa Claus. St. Nick has had to take on a number of bad guys in the past, but never has it been quite so violent as this time around.
AdvertisementIt all kicks off when he’s doing his annual rounds when he gets wind of a group of mercenaries attacking a very wealthy family home. Obviously, this wouldn’t fit into his usual festive efforts, but the young granddaughter of the wealthy matriarch (played by Beverly D’Angelo of National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation fame) is on the nice list, so he has to wade in.
You can see in the trailer that it appears as though he might be cornered by one of the crooks on his initial arrival, which starts the process off. However, he gets more of a vested interest when Trudy contacts him on a radio her parents have told her is a direct line to Santa.
AdvertisementIt’s a far cry from The Santa Clause (1985) when David Huddleston took on the might of John Lithgow with a little help from Dudley Moore as his wayward elf Patch, but the general principles are at least sort of the same. Santa uncovers a nefarious plot and does what he can to sort things out. Only this time he’s got the fighting skills of John Wick to go with his Christmas magic.
It’s going to be a lot of fun on the big screen, but Violent should also make for a pretty good annual watch on DVD, Blu-ray and digital too. Throw it on after Die Hard and Die Hard 2 for a little extra shot of seasons greetings and you’re probably on for a good night.
UK Blu-ray, digital and DVD release date latest
AdvertisementWith Violent Night out on the big screen on the 2nd December 2022, the first opportunity to watch the film on home media will be the digital early access options from the likes of Amazon. It could be available before Christmas, depending on how the film does at the box office, but it’s more likely that it will be the New Year, which is much less seasonal.
If that isn’t enough, you’ll then have to wait for the Easter Bunny for the UK DVD and Blu-ray release date. This should be around late March 2023, which will precede Easter Sunday by a couple weeks (9th April 2023).
If you’re looking for the less expensive digital release this should arrive a week or so ahead of the DVD and Blu-ray, so you’re looking at the middle two weeks of March 2023 as a ball park.
While the early access digital will probably come as both rental and purchase, the less expensive standard digital will only by purchase prior to the DVD and Blu-ray. If you’re waiting on the less expensive digital rental then you’re back to late March 2023 at the earliest from our estimates.

US release date latest
The North American market is often a little advanced compared to the UK for home entertainment, but it will probably be a similar picture for the early access release date. The DVD and Blu-ray should be a little earlier though, so you might get this in the US towards the end of February or early March 2023.
This will then have a knock-on affect on the standard digital release both in terms of purchase (a week or so earlier than the DVD and Blu-ray) and rental (a week or so after).
