Villagers are back in a couple of weeks with the release of their second studio album, Awayland, so here’s a preview of another song from the record, Passing a Message. The release follows up their 2009 Ivor Novello Award winning album, Becoming a Jackal, and with the two previous preview tracks sounding amazing there’s a lot to look forward to on Awayland.
Passing a Message is an addictive step into light-funk with a little head tip to jazz and reggae wrapped up in a tight alt-rock ramble. It ends all too quickly, so it’s going to be one of the tracks that gets a lot of play when Awayland gets released, but then with the likes of The Waves and Nothing Arrived already impressing, the entire album is probably going to get a good amount of looping.
Awayland is set for release on the 14th January 2013, but Passing a Message is already available to download from iTunes if you want to get it in advance, along with the other single releases. Villagers’ headline tour is also set to start in February 2013, so it’s definitely going to be a cool start to the year for the Irish indie folk pop rockers.
Villagers’ new material has also been accompanied with some ace videos and while Passing a Message’s is more low key than The Waves and Nothing Arrived, it’s still got a lot of style and emphasizes the lyrics perfectly, which has been a feature of the other videos.
Awayland is well on its way to being one of the best new albums of 2013, so get set for the 14th Jan and our full review. Visit our Villagers 2013 tour dates page for full details of their upcoming gigs.
