Turkey mince is massively under appreciated and these turkey meatballs are an ace example of what you can do with it. I cooked my turkey meatballs with an Italian tomato sauce, but you could easily transfer this for Spanish, Greek, Moroccan or Indian sauces. You can also make changes to the herbs and seasoning to change the overall taste of the meatballs or to match them better with a different sauce.
Turkey meatballs ingredients (serves 2):
• 500g turkey mince
• 1 egg yolk
• A pinch of garlic powder
• A good pinch of ground rock salt
• A good pinch of finely ground black pepper
• 1 tsp dried oregano
• A shake of chilli powder (to taste)
• 1 tables olive oil
Turkey meatballs recipe:
1. Put the turkey mince into a bowl and crack the egg yolk over the top.
2. Sprinkle the garlic powder, salt, pepper, oregano and chilli powder over the turkey mince.
3. Work the egg yolk and seasoning into the meat with your finger thoroughly.
4. Break off the meatball mix into small chunks and roll into balls and leave to stand for a minute on a baking tray while you heat a frying pan with the olive oil on a medium temperature.
5. Cook the turkey meatballs evenly on all sides, turning periodically to ensure that they do not overcook. This should take around 10 minutes.
6. Once they are browned on all sides transfer the meatballs to a baking tray and cook in a pre-heated oven for an additional few minutes.
7. Add your turkey meatballs to your sauce and serve when ready.
