Story
It isn’t massively obvious when you watch the trailer, but Transformers Rise of the Beasts acts as yet another prequel to the main series, which ended in The Last Knight in 2017. That also makes it a direct sequel to 2018’s Bumblebee, so all of the action takes place before the fight with the Decepticons in the 2007 Transformers movie.
AdvertisementThe story picks up with the Autobots coming to earth to help Bublebee with the threat the planet eating god robot Unicron approaching. His forces, the Terrorcons and Predacons are inbound and there’s another massive war brewing.
It makes you wonder why none of this was mentioned in Transformers (2007), but you can forgive a film about sentient giant robots from space for a little creative license. The Autobots join up with another group of humans and work with beast-like robots called Maximals to repel attack.
As it’s the 7th film in the series, you’re bound to have some or all of them on DVD, Blu-ray or digital, so Rise of the Beasts will help you bring your collection up-to-date. We’re expecting the home media release to take place before the winter holidays, so it should be on a fair few Christmas wish lists.

UK Blu-ray, digital and DVD release date latest
AdvertisementTransformers Rise of the Beasts arrived on the big screen on June 8th, 2023 in the UK, so we’re expecting the DVD, Blu-ray and standard digital release date to take place around October. This will give it both the winter half-term and later holiday period to take up position in the top ten charts.
However, if you’re looking for your first opportunity to watch the film at home that will be with the early access release. This could be as early as August 2023, but we’ve seen a lot of changes for it over the last year, so we’ll keep you posted on the latest.
It should be available to buy digitally during the early access window in the UK, with the option to rent the film too. However, this has been different for a variety of films with Avatar 2 rental entirely as things stand, so we could see a specific release strategy for Transformer 7 too.

The date for early access should also depend on how successful Rise of the Beasts is at the box office and it’s a similar situation for the DVD, Blu-ray and later standard digital release. However, even here there are anomalies with the Super Mario Movie doing huge numbers on the big screen, but still getting a relatively quick turnaround for early access.
AdvertisementHowever, it’s still a good assumption that if the prequel sequel does good numbers in cinemas then it might push back the release of the DVD, Blu-ray and digital versions of the film. Equally, if it under-performs then it might push for an earlier release, so we’ll keep you posted here.
It’s got a pretty big fan base and despite mixed reviews it should be one of the big summer blockbusters. It’s only got Spider-Man Across the Spider-verse as competition for its opening weekend with the animated film out a week before it.
It will have more big films to go head-to-head with later in the month, though, with The Flash and Asteroid City out a week later and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny releasing on June 30th. This could see sales dip quickly from the 16th onward, which could impact when it will come out on DVD, Blu-ray and digital.
North America release date latest
Things move a little faster in the movie industry in north America, so the US release date for the DVD, Blu-ray and standard digital versions will probably be before the UK. This could be as early as September, but again this will be dependent on the strategy Paramount want to go down for home media.
AdvertisementIt could be a similar case for early access, which could have a release date ahead of the UK too. However, this is usually not as pronounced as with the DVD, Blu-ray and standard digital, so it could just be just a week different, giving it late July as a very early ball park.

Transformers Rise of the Beasts Blu-ray and 4K bonus extras and special features
As the big screen release date has only just dropped, there are no official details on the Transformers Rise of the Beasts bonus extras and special features. But… that’s not going to stop us speculating and gesticulating (we’re wild typers) about what’s going to be included.
The Bumblebee Blu-ray and 4K didn’t come with that much in the was of bonus content, so that might be the same again with the sequel. However, The Last Knight had 90-minutes of special features, covering the setting in the UK and the combination of the Transformers universe with the story of King Arthur.
If it follows the latter then we might get features on the Amazonian setting for the introduction of the Maximals. Rise of the Beasts could also explore the Incan link with the Maximals, which would work well to weave in the wider history and how Transformers has spliced itself into it in the story.
We’ll update you with more details on the DVD, Blu-ray and digital release date as they get confirmed. Check out our film news section to keep tabs on the latest, or visit the official movie website at www.transformersmovie.com.
