E3 began earlier this week and already there’s a raging console war hotting up and more new games than you’ll ever have time to complete, but our favourite reveal of day one goes to the behemoth of Titanfall. It’s a splintered, futuristic offshoot from the Call Of Duty creators and it looks brutally brilliant with amazing futuristic tech and weaponry to duke it out with, taking the first person shooter style of COD and throwing it a hundred years into the future.
There are a number of futuristic first person shooter games to look forward to in the not so distant future, including Bungie’s Destiny, Battlefield 4 and Monolith Software’s X for the Nintendo Wii U, but in terms of the Xbox ONE, Titanfall is the only game that brings you giant mecha warriors to control.
However, it’s not all robo-blasting! You get a mix of battle options between being encased in one of the Titan machines or going solo as a regular guy with awesome firepower in your armoury. Check out the trailer below to see what we mean, but the long and short of it is that first person shooters just took a huge step forward.
In soldier mode it’s not just weapons that you have at your disposal for super cool action, you also have a jet pack to get around with as well as better free running skills than Chase McCain and Ryan Doyle combined. Get yourself inside one of the titans and you’re a twenty foot tall monster of a robot with a crazy amount of firepower, however, nothing is going to be more satisfying than going online, starting out as a soldier and taking down your first Titan.
With the power of the next generation consoles behind them, all of the futuristic titles on display at E3 look amazing and Titanfall is easily one of the most impressive of them all. If anything, the trailer underplays the crisp detail and render rates. Distant structures look stunning and close up battles are more piercing than the bullets you’ll get to fire.
Set amongst a battle in the distant future you’ll take control of a soldier in the midst of the mayhem. While the game is multiplayer only, which is a pretty bold move by developers Respawn Entertainment, there will be storyline elements infused into the matches themselves to give you more of an insight into who you are, what’s going on and who’s side you’re on.
Titanfall is Respawn Entertainment’s first release. The independent video game development studio was formed by Jason West and Vince Zampella, former co-founders of Infinity Ward and creators of the Call of Duty franchise, so expect big things from the Titans.
Titanfall is expected have a release date in spring 2014 on the Xbox ONE, Xbox 360 and Microsoft Windows. While there’s talk of it maybe eventually being ported to other devices later in 2014, for now it looks like one of Microsoft’s best exclusive titles.
i like Titanfall …but i will never buy a xbox again
