If you’re not excited already, check out the brilliant Thunderbirds Are Go! Series 2 trailer below and you should ramp up to post-Squishee proportions of wired frenzy. It features a new baddie, a raft of knife-edge action scenes and some very cool animation, with just enough supermarionation to keep a hold of the nostalgia for the original show, so buckle up for a second season of the modern day reboot.
Following up on the great reception the first series recieved, the new batch of 26 episodes will be getting its premier air date in October 2016, taking us through the winter months with a whole lot of Thunderbirds to cosy up with. From the look of the trailer it doesn’t look like ITV has spared much in the way of expense for the 2nd season and there should be even more action to look forward to this time around.
The Mechanic
The new villain for the series is revealed to be The Mechanic, but details about who the masked madman is and why he’s got a beef the the guys at International Rescue are still shrouded in mystery. He takes over from the nefarious dealings of The Hood, after the git was incarcerated for all his criminal megalomania at the end of Series 1, and if anything he looks like he’s going to be even more managing.
If that isn’t enough menace, the trailer also seems to imply a link of some sort between The Hood and his auto shop successor. Not only does The Hood claim from his jail cell that he knows what’s coming and it’s worse than him, but there’s also a brief glimpse of him as a cyborg under the control of The Hood, so you should probably set yourself for as much mystery as there is high-octane action.
Thunderbirds Are Go! Series 2 trailer secrets and new tech revealed
In addition to the reveal of The Mechanic as the new villain for International Rescue to face, it also surfaces a few secrets, including yet another fleeting hint about the Tracey brothers’ dad, Col. Jeff Tracey and his missing TV-21 ship (named after Gerry and Sylvia Anderson’s Century 21 Productions). We’re pretty sure this is going to be an ongoing mystery way beyond the realms of Series 2, but it’s definitely going to be a part of the anticipation for the next batch of episodes.
Finally, the trailer features some cool new tech for John Tracy, in the spacesuit genius that is the Exopod, which he can use to jet around in outer space. It’s essentially an exoskeleton wing suit add-on with rocket burners that allow him to go beyond the confines of his usual Thunderbird 5 confines.
