The White Stripes announced their retirement this week after 14 years of making some of the most defining music of the last decade. With 6 studio albums and more amazing singles than a lonely hearts column, the White Stripes are going to be missed.
According to the White Stripes’ website the retirement is due not to health issues or any falling out, but “mostly to preserve what is beautiful and special about the band and have it stay that way”.
With such an amazing history it’s hard to see that ever not being the case though.
Apparently, their record label will continue to release previously unaired live and studio recordings by the White Stripes. However, it looks fairly definite that no new material will be recorded.
Hopefully, there will be a reformation in the future some time, so that we get to hear them live again.
