Probably one the best pieces of news to hit the music industry all year is that The Stone Roses have confirmed a miraculous resurrection and announced a series of gigs in 2012. Putting all of their old mid-nineties troubles behind them, Ian Brown, John Squire, Gary “Mani” Mounfield, and Alan “Reni” Wren will be back for their first gigs in more than 15 years at the Heaton Park in Manchester on the 29th and 30th of June 2012.
The announcement came at a press conference at London’s Soho Hotel on the 18th October 2011. In addition to the Manchester gigs, they also confirmed a worldwide tour later in 2012, which will give us even more opportunities to see the band that brought us I Wanna Be Adored, Shoot You Down and This is the One.
If all of that wasn’t enough there was also talk of writing new material, a potential new album and a new united front for the band. While there are plenty of other reunions that have not been so good, there are those that give more recent fans the opportunity to hear bands that they wouldn’t ordinarily get to see. The Pixies reunion tour in 2004 was amazing and hopefully The Rolling Stones will be able to do something similar.
No tour dates have been announced for the worldwide gigs as of yet, but we’ll be keeping our ears peeled for updates, so watch this space. Fingers crossed the band can keep it together for long enough to remind everyone what a massive impact they have had on music. Tickets for the Manchester gigs go on sale on Friday 21st October and will probably sell out fast, so hopefully there will be a lot more gigs and maybe a few festival appearances to even out the odds of seeing them.
