After a stunning 2010 exhibition, The Royal Academy of Arts is just about to launch its 2011 Summer Exhibition. Opening on the 7th June and running through until 15th August 2011 it’ll be filled to the rafters with more art that The Louvre for the summer months (don’t quote me on that though as it’s not factually correct).
Anyway, the exhibition is a huge collection of art that is open to all contributors, so you could see your nan, who took up art last year in crazy final bid for creative expression, alongside more than a few well known contemporary artists.
One of the big changes for The Royal Academy of Arts’ Summer Exhibition this year is the fact that there is no overall theme. This is a significant departure from previous years, so it will be interesting to see whether or not this has a negative impact on the overall flow of the exhibition.
The best aspect of the Summer Exhibition is the huge diversity of style and medium of art on show. With a wide range of different types of painting style mixed in with sculpture, architectural models and comic illustrations there’s more than enough interest to keep visitors happy, no matter what there preference.
Most of the art on display at the 2011 Summer Exhibition will also be available to buy, making it one of the most easily accessible contemporary art exhibitions and sales of the year. Last year’s giant gorilla made of coat hangers sculpture will be a lot to top, but once again a large piece of sculpture will be the centre piece of the showcase.
