Marvel is going through a tough time of things at the moment, so hopefully The Marvels UK release date will help it turn things around. To give you everything you need to know about the film, we’ll also talk you through the age rating latest, as well as the story details we know so far, confirmed cast members and our runtime estimate.
Ant-Man and the Wasp Quantumania hasn’t landed as well as it should have and it was a similar situation for Thor Love and Thunder. There’s also the Eternals hangover from a couple of years back, so there’s a fair amount of pressure on The Marvels.
AdvertisementLuckily for Disney and Marvel things went much better for Black Panther Wakanda Forever, so there’s definitely scope for more success with the right formula. The situation with Jonathan Majors throws some doubt over the future of Phase 5 and 6, so there’s scope for projects like The Marvels to have release date delays.
We’ll keep you posted if there are any big announcements, but as things stand the details below contain everything we know. Story
AdvertisementMarvel hasn’t put out an official synopsis for The Marvels as of yet, but we should get one in the coming months, as long as the release date stays as it is (more details below). As soon as a trailer lands we’ll get the story details, but there’s a lot we know already based on the events of Captain Marvel, Avengers Endgame, Shang-Chi and the Legend fo the Ten Rings, Wanda Vision and the ending of Ms. Marvel on Disney+.
We know that Carol Danvers, AKA Captain Marvel, has been off planet trying to help alien worlds struggling after the impact of the Blip in Avengers Infinity War. However, in a mid-credits scene in Shang-Chi they find out that the rings are a beacon, but have no idea for what.
We also found out at the end of Wanda Vision that Carol sent a Skrull to request a meeting with Monica Rambeau. Then in the mid-credits scene at the end of Ms. Marvel we find out that they’re all swapping places for some reason, so that should be the focus of the story rather than the beacon issue, which should be covered in Shang-Chi 2.
Cast
The Marvels cast list starts out with Brea Larson as Carol Danvers / Captain Marvel, Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau and Iman Vellani as Kamala Kahn / Ms. Marvel. We’re also expecting Samuel L. Jackson to be back in action as Nick Fury, but it hasn’t been confirmed by Marvel as of yet.
The rest is an open book, but there’s definitely scope for the rest of the cast from Ms. Marvel to be included in the film with Kamala being one of the three main characters. Simu Liu, Awkwafina and Benedict Wong are also contenders if there is any continuation from Shang-Chi.
With Nick Fury possibly in the mix, we can also speculate that Cobie Smulders might be returning as Agent Maria Hill in The Marvels. Continuing the Wong link we could also see Mark Ruffalo joining the fight as The Incredible Hulk too, so we’re looking forward to seeing the trailer to find out more.
The Marvels UK release date
AdvertisementThe Marvels UK release date is presumed to be the same as in North America, where it is scheduled to come out on November 10th, 2023. It’ll be the last film from the Marvel Cinematic Universe this year, following up on Ant-Man and the Wasp Quantumania and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
The date is still a long way off, so there is scope for there to be a split release between the UK and US, but hopefully that won’t be the case. It happened a couple of times over the winter holidays 2022, but none of them were MCU films, which usually come out on the same date on both sides of the Atlantic.
As it’s still early, there isn’t anything else big scheduled to arrive in cinemas on the same weekend, but with Dune Part II releasing a week earlier it’ll still have some tough competition. The Hunger Games prequel is then out a week later, so there’s going to be fair amount riding on the reviews for all of these.
Dune II could easily overshadow The Marvels if the reviews favor the sci-fi adaptation, so hopefully the end product from Marvel Studios is good enough to land well. Theres’s definitely an overlap with similar audiences to an extent, but with Thanksgiving on November 23rd, 2023 there might be enough scope for both of them to do well.
AdvertisementIf we were making the call, we’d back it up a week and bank on tail-off for Dune 2 and mixed reviews for The Hunger Games The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. The other option would be to push it into the first week of December and give it the winter holidays to land well.
With the November 10th release date, we’re expecting the Captain Marvel 2 DVD, Blu-ray and digital release to take place around April 2024, which would be perfect for the easter holidays. It’ll be interesting to see what Disney and Marvel do with the early access digital release as they’ve had a year of leaving things late in both the UK and North America.
UK and North America age rating
As you might expect, The Marvels UK age rating won’t be confirmed by the BBFC until we get closer to the cinema release date in November, but MCU films are pretty straight down the line when it comes to certification. It’s a similar story in the US where the norm is a PG-13 to go with the UK’s 12 age rating, so it should be a similar case this time around too.

There isn’t a single MCU film that has wavered from this pattern over the years, so it’ll be the surprise of the year if the Captain Marvel, Monica Rambeau and Ms. Marvel combo rocks up with anything else. The parents guide notes for previous films in the series include moderate or fantasy violence with a little threat thrown in for good measure.
AdvertisementThe injury detail in Black Panther Wakanda Forever was a bit of a switch up, but we’re not expecting anything like that in The Marvels. The age rating should be the same though, mirroring all of the previous MCU films going back to Iron Man in 2008.
Runtime
We’ll get The Marvels runtime when we’re a few weeks out from the release date, similar to the age rating. Although, we can look at the average for the last few MCU films, which should give you a general target to be aware of.
Ant-Man and the Wasp Quantumania was 2 hours and 4 minutes, Black Panther 2 was 2 hours and 35 minutes and Thor Love and Thunder was a little under 2 hours. Based on the success factor and reviews for these three, the smart advice would be to go long, serious and allow for more time to develop characters.
However, Captain Marvel 2 will probably be closer to the 2 hour mark than Wakanda Forever was. Hopefully, it isn’t a bad sign for the film, but we’ll obviously add in more details when they’re available.
Trailer
Sadly, there’s no trailer as of yet, but we’re expecting something imminently. It will probably arrive a little after the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 release date, to prevent it from impacting the launch.
However, if Disney and Marvel are feeling very confident about the film they might coincide it to build hype for both movies. With the slightly ailing box office results for Ant-Man and the Wasp Quantumania it could do with a good news story this year.
