The Many Saints of Newark UK release date, age rating and parents guide

The Many Saints of Newark UK release date, age rating and parents guide latest

The first Sopranos story is about to land in the Tony Soprano origin story, The Many Saints of Newark, so here’s everything you need to know about the film, including the UK release date, age rating latest and our parents guide. You can also get details on the plot, cast and runtime, but that’s all we’re saying. After that, it’s code of silence time. Something to do with a horse’s head and a bag of magic beans.

Okay, so, like we said, it’s an origin story, but not the kind of plot you might have expected. It takes things back to the big man’s last year as a high school kid. He wants to go to college, has good IQ results, but bad grades and a mum that doesn’t really believe in him. With an uncle in the mob it was only a matter of time before he got made and took up the garbage business too.

However, we know that he goes on to become one of the highest ranking members of the DiMeo family, so clearly there’s going to be a certain amount of rising up the ranks involved. You can also see in the trailer that his Uncle Dickie has got a fair few enemies, so this is clearly going to be a time of warfare for the Sopranos.

Cast

The Many Saints of Newark cast is made up of a combination of old and new faces. Michael Gandolfini taking up the mantle of his late father in the role of Tony Soprano and Jon Bernthal plays his screen dad, Johnny Soprano. They’re joined by Alessandro Nivola as his uncle, Dickie Moltisanti, Ray Liotta as Aldo Moltisanti (Dick’s dad), and Vera Farmiga as Tony’s mum Livia. Corey Stoll plays Uncle June, Billie Magnussan (No Time To Die) as Paulie, John Magaro as Silvio and Leslie Odom Jr. (Murder on the Orient Express) plays a rival gang member trying to take down uncle Dick.

The Many Saints of Newark UK release date

The good news is that you’ll be able to catch the film pretty soon with the UK release date planned for Wednesday the 22nd September 2022. As with all 2021 movies, the prequel to The Sopranos has had it’s setbacks as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. It was initially due to come out in September 2020, so it has had a little over a year delay.

There aren’t any other new films out on the same opening weekend, but it will need to fend off the might of Shang-Chi and the Lengend of the Ten Rings, which arrived on the big screen on the 3rd. It’s likely that it should be a long enough delay to give The Many Faces of Newark a chance of the number 1 spot, but Shang-Chi is proving popular, and for good reason, so it could come down to the wire. It will then have No Time To Die to compete against on the following weekend, so it’s going to be a tight window.

The US release date is planned for the 1st October 2021, so you won’t need to worry too much about spoilers. Although, in all fairness, you can probably guess most of the plot twists based on your knowledge of the TV series.

As the film is coming out in September in the UK, it should have gone on to come out on home entertainment around January 2022, but it has now got an earlier DVD, Blu-ray and digital release date planned for the 13th December 2021. There are no details as of yet in terms of when it will be available to stream in the UK.

UK age rating and parents guide

The British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) has officially announced The Many Saints of Newark UK age rating now that we’re a little closer to the release date. It’s been certified 15, which is down from The Sopranos age rating, which was 18, so so it’s clearly not going to be quite as strong as the TV series was.

In terms of our parents guide notes, the trailer and previous media indicates that there’s going to be some strong language in the film, along with violence. If you really want to see what to expect, you might want to watch a few episodes of The Sopranos and go from there.

We’ll update you with more details on the film as they get confirmed. You can also check out our movie news section to keep tabs on the latest upcoming films, or visit the Warner Bros. website at www.warnerbros.com.

Runtime

Like the age rating, The Many Saints of Newark runtime has also now been confirmed and it’s going to be 2 hours long, which seems about right for the story involved.
