In a world without Kragle, or Lord Business, you’d think that things would be looking up for Emmet, Wildstyle and team, but from the look of The Lego Movie 2 trailer, there’s definitely a post apocalyptic decimation vibe going on. While Emmet’s still pretty upbeat, thanks mostly to his peppy music choices, and childlike innocence, this looks like it’s going to be a tongue-in-cheek LEGO take on George Miller’s Mad Max: Fury Road.
However, things take a Guardians Of The Galaxy twist part way through the trailer, as Emmet must journey to outer space to save his lady warrior from the clutches of a new threat to LEGO-kind. You can check it out for yourself in the video below to see how the film is shaping up, but it looks like it’s going to be another hilarious adventure with incredible block visuals and a completely random storyline.
The Lego Movie 2 trailer:
UK cinema release date
As well as confirming the story for the sequel, the arrival of the trailer has also given us a ballpark view on the UK release date for The Lego Movie 2. It’ll be out in theatres in February 2019, bringing in a little extra cheer to the end of the winter months. It’ll be a brain-melding five years since the release of the opening film back in 2014, but then we’ve had The Lego Batman Movie in between, so it hasn’t all been harsh and desolate wilderness.
DVD, Blu-ray and digital release date in the UK
With the movie out in Feb ’19, you can expect it to be available on DVD, Blu-ray, digital and 4K UHD around June 2019 if you’re looking to add the film to your collection.
Story
The trailer tees things up pretty well for the second film as the aftermath wreckage of Taco Tuesday has taken its toll on Bricksburg. Just when it looks like things couldn’t get any worse for everyone, an alien ship arrives, creates yet more chaos and steels away into outer space, taking Wildstyle, Batman, Metalbeard, Princess Unikitty and Benny with it. It’s then up to Emmet to go where no brick has gone before, but luckily he’ll have his best buddy Planty along for his journey of enterprising discovery and deep space trek beyond the stars.
The Lego Movie 2 music
In addition to the stunning visuals, mental storyline, UK release date and cast announcements, the trailer also features a few hit tracks, which will undoubtedly be heading into the music creds for the film. The first you can hear is a Tween Dream Remix of Everything Is Awesome, which adds even more dimples, candy floss and saccharine love into the mix.
The good news is that this is fairly short-lived and gets replaced by the excellent Intergalactic genius of The Beastie Boys. It’s the kind of music that can make any trailer come alive and the video for the song is up there with the best. You can see it all in full in the music video below:
In addition to the music on the trailer, the film has also announced its theme song, Catchy Song by Dillon Francis feat. T-Pain, That Girl Lay Lay.
