How to easily beat Queen Gibdo, The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom – Queen Gibdo boss fight guide

The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom Queen Gibdo guide - How to defeat the Lightning Temple boss

The difficulty really cranks up in The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom with Queen Gibdo, so hopefully our guide will give you some tips on how to take this beast down. It’s one of the toughest boss fights you’ll have in TotK and even when you know how to defeat the scourge of the Lightning Temple you can still fail at the final hurdle.

Unless you’ve grinding Shrines and focusing on Heart Containers, Queen Gibdo can one-shot you with a number of attacks. It’s sand laser attack, dive bomb and tracker charge in the second phase are nails, so you’re going to need all of the hints you can get to beat this beast.

If that isn’t enough, you can take on the Temples in any order in The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom, so it’s entirely possible that you have decided to do Gerudo first. This means taking on the fight early on, so you might only have four hearts, which will make this really tough.

If that’s you then you might want to check your saves and back out before taking it on again. There’s no shame in a tactical retreat and the other bosses are a whole lot easier. You might also want to check out our post on what to do first with the link below.

How to defeat Queen Gibdo

If you’ve got seven it’s just about doable, but ideally you’d have more as a safety blanked for some of it’s out of nowhere shots in the second phase. However, if you find that you get one-hit obliterated then you might want to cook up a speed buff or defense boosting meal in the first phase with one of the cooker devices.

Sidon’s water shield will help, so try to get him to keep applying it between attacks to give you a bit of security. However, he’s a bit all over the place in the Queen Gibdo boss fight, so you might need to chase him down to get it. This can leave you open to a surprise attack, so be cautious.

It’s also a good idea to fuse your strongest materials to your weapon to increase the amount of damage you do when you get the chance. Don’t worry about anything elemental, just focus on it being the best damage you can apply.

You might also want to check your armor to see if you’ve got anything that’s a bit more resilient. The Desert Voe Armor set is set at 9 as base stat, but if you’ve taken the time to get the Soldier’s Set then it starts at 12 each when you have all three equipped.

This could help you stay in the fight with the Queen Gibdo and turn the one-shot hits into more manageable damage. The points is that this is one of the hardest hitting bosses in the game, so you really want to work any angles you can to help you through.

The strategy is to use Riju’s lightning shot to make it vulnerable to attacks and then run around it’s sand storm attack to get in some shots. Having a spear and a strong Fuse material attached to it is the best bet to give you more reach and impact.

You’ll probably need to bring it down with lightning a few times before it fully drops to the floor and gives you a chance to get in a lot of hits. If you’ve got a strong weapon for this then it should go through to the next part of the battle, but if your melee weapon options is limited you can always use arrow shots from your strongest bow to chip it down from afar.

Things get really tough in the second phase, where you’ll also need to use the lightning to take down the Gibdo hives. Use the light from defeated hives to ward off attacks and buy to time for Riju’s lightning to charge back up again before heading back into the fight.

Try to defeat each of the hives to clear the deck, but keep an eye out for the Queen’s one-shot attacks. If you’ve followed the tips on hearts, armor, Sidon shields and defense buffs then you’ve got a better chance against them, but it’s still a good idea to avoid them like the plague.

It’s also trickier to get in Riju’s lightning strikes in phase 2, but keep trying and you’ll get there in the end if you keep moving and have good defense. A slightly risky strategy is to charge the shot, wait for it to expand and use it when the Queen Gibdo does the sand bean attack.

It stays still while doing this, so it’s one of the few times during this section of the boss fight where it isn’t on the move. As soon as the lightning hits the sand beams drops anyway, so if you time it right you can get it done.

The sand storm attack is wider during this phase, so you’ll need to change your approach. If you’re struggling to get close enough then you can just snipe it with arrow fire from afar, but try to get in close if you want to defeat it faster.

I you’re looking for ways to get creative, you could always try the rocket shield to get some height and then rain down on Queen Gibdo from above. However, in our books it’s all just about getting the job done on this one to be able to get the fourth Sage in The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom.

That’s if for our guide on how to defeat the beast, but you can see the fight in full with the video above, plus there’s more useful TotK info with the links below. This includes other bosses, as well as details on the Shrines, Glider, Fuse combos and Ultrahand builds.
