The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom sees you returning to the aquatic region, so here’s our guide to show you how to get the Zora Armor. It’s one that you need in order to be able to progress easily throughout the Zora Domain, especially getting to and completing the Water Temple.
When you take this on will depend on which Regional Phenomena you’ve take on first. You might have gone straight to the Zora Kingdom and ignored Purah’s advice about going to Rito Village to do the Wind Temple, or any other combination with the other locations in Gerudo and Goron City.
AdvertisementHowever, the majority will get here as their second temple to goo after and when you arrive in Zora you find out that you need to go to see Prince Sidon up at the top of the waterfall. Sadly, you’ll have to make this trek at least once without the armor, but if you plan it right you can get everything done in one.

How to get the Zora Armor
Before you run off to find Prince Sidon in TotK, it’s a good idea to start the process of getting the Zora Armor to save you a little leg work. To do this, you need to go to talk to Lady Yona, who you can find in the water chamber on the level beneath King Doraphan’s throne room.
She’ll tell you that she’s been fixing the Zora Armor for you, but to finish the job she’ll need an ancient arowana to use a scale in the restoration process. Sadly, she thinks that they’re a bit scarce at the moment due to the regional phenomena afflicting the domain and she’s got no idea where to find one.
AdvertisementHowever, she does give you a clue to work on, saying that Dento the blacksmith might know where to find an ancient arowana. The problem is that she doesn’t tell you where to find Dento, so you’re kind of left to hunt around Zora trying to find him.
To save you some time, you just need to go down a level and make your way into the Zora armory, which is on the right hand side. Walk past Marot at the entrance and head to the back right and you’ll find Dento to get the details about the ancient arowana location (if you’re still struggling, you can see where he is in the video below).

He tells you that you can find them up at the pool around Mipha’s Statue, which is conveniently placed just up the stairs to the right of where you find Prince Sidon. This means that you can take out two jobs in one trek instead of going up to Sidon and finding out that you need the Zora Armor, so coming back down to start the process only to have to go back up.
To get up to Prince Sidon you’ll need to climb up the rock faces next to the waterfalls to the north east of Zora and you’ll see him trying to fix the sludge problem. Once you’ve talked to him you can then head up to Mipha’s Statue to catch an ancient arowana, but you might want to go do the errand for Sidon at the same time to cut down on time spent walking around the place.
AdvertisementOnce you’ve done all of this you can take your ancient fish back down to Lady Yona and she’ll get to work fixing it. Once she puts in the finishing touches you’ll get the Zora Armor to add to your inventory for the rest of The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom.
How to swim up waterfalls
Once you’ve got the Zora Armor, equip it from the inventory menu and head up to the waterfalls to the north east of the city. You can try swimming through the water to get to the waterfalls, but this takes more time.
Instead, use the glider to fly directly to the start of the waterfall and then you just press A to confirm that you want to swim up it. You can do this mid-air higher up a waterfall, which you’ll need to do on the route up to the Water Temple.
Simply glide into a waterfall and you’ll immediately start swimming up it. When you get to the top, you’ll get a jump that will give you an opportunity to go back into glider to fly down to where you wan to get to more easily.

How to upgrade the Zora Armor
AdvertisementAs with BotW, you upgrade all of the armor sets in The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom at one of the Great Fairy Fountain locations. You can check out the video linked below to see where to find all of them and how to open them.
Once you get the first of the Great Fairies you will be able to upgrade the Zora Armor to level 1 with a few Lizalfos Horns. You’ll then need to open all of the Fountain locations to be able to get the next three levels of upgrade to give you a bit more protection when you’re doing swim projects.
After you complete the section to get the Zora Armor, you’ll need to head find the King to get a scales and then you’ll have to fight a Sludge Like. It’s one of the many TotK bosses that can trip you up, so if you’re struggling you can see out guide to the fight with the link below.
