The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom Fuse Combinations guide and Ultrahand Builds

The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom Fuse Options and Ultrahand Builds

If you’ve just watch the gameplay reveal then you will have had your first taste of The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom Fuse combinations and Ultrahand builds. These are two of the new abilities you get in the game where you can combine (fuse) one or more items together to make something completely new.

We’ll take you through the mechanics in a bit more detail and talk through some of the builds and combos that were featured in the presentation. We’ll also throw in a few ideas about other cool fuses and things you can make with Ultrahand, so that you can try them out when The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom releases on Nintendo Switch on May 12th, 2023.

How does Fuse and Ultrahand work?

Much like the Sheikah abilities that we had in Breath of the Wild, it looks like Link will be able to use Zonai abilities using his glove in The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom. These include the Fuse and Ultrahand, and to make it happen you take one item and then select a second item to fuse it to.

Repeat this a number of times for your Ultrahand constructions and you’ve got yourself some sweet wheels to roll around Hyrule in. You can see the first examples of this in the list below, but the point is that the combinations are endless, so there are going to be some pretty freaky vehicles on the ground, in the air or spraying up the waterways.

Alternatively, Fuse a couple of weapons together or a weapon/shield and inventory item and you’ve got a whole new way of dealing with enemies in TotK. Hopefully, there will be a lot more new items this time around to really take this to the next level.

To get the job done, you can pick an item up using levitation and combine it with another in the open world environment. It even looks like you can fuse items from the inventory, so there are going to be lots of different options in terms of using the ability.

Weapon and shield fuse combinations

The weapon Fuse builds below were the first ones demonstrated in the March Nintendo Direct for The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom, but it looks like they’re just the tip of the iceberg:

  • Boulder stick – Fuse a small boulder witha stick to give it more range, power and durability.
  • Lance – Fuse a long stick to spears, tridents or pitchforks to get a really long range melee weapon.

  • Homing arrows – Fuse a Keese eyeball to your arrows to give them homing missile properties to take out enemies and hunting targets alike.
  • Ice arrows – Fuse any ice element ingredient with your arrows to get an ice arrow. We’re expecting this to be a similar situation for fire ingredients to make fire arrows. It’ll be cool if you can find Sheikah tech to be able to fuse with arrows to give us Ancient Arrows too, or explosives to make bomb arrows. The presentation also talked about a leaf arrow by fusing a leave, but it didn’t show what the result would be. We’re expecting this to blow enemies back with wind, but we might have to wait for the release date to see it in action.
  • Torch arrow – Fuse a light bioluminescent plant to your arrows to light up the darker caves below the surface of Hyrule.
  • Log club – Fuse a log with a stick and you get a large club.

  • Fan – Fuse a door to a stick and you’ve got a large fan to blow enemies away with.
  • Smoke bomb shield – The Direct presentation didn’t showcase the shield combinations all that much, but it did reveal the smoke shield, and there was more from later videos below. Fuse a Puffshroom to your shield and when you block an attack you’ll send out a blast of smoke to allow you to either run away if needed or circle around for a sneak attack.
  • Cannon shield – you can fuse a dragon head cannon to your shield and if the image below is anything to go by it looks like you need to use it to defeat the Flame Gleeok.

  • Rocket shield – Fuse a rocket to your shield to get an instant vertical takeoff to the skies.
  • Shield sword – Fuse a shield onto your sword to get a parry on sword swipes from what it looks like in trailer 3.

Vehicle Ultrahand builds

It looks like The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom is going to feature a lot of vehicle Ultrahand build options. There’s going to be a lot of creativity for this, so it’s going to be interesting to see how crazy and huge some of the builds get.

The list below is of the vehicles featured so far:

  • Raft boat – Fuse logs together and add a couple of fans to the back drive it forward.
  • Raft drone – Fuse logs together and add 4 fans facing down on each corner to take it up into the air.
  • Hot air balloon – Throw an Octorok Balloon into the mix to bring this one to life.
  • Large car – Use Ultrahand to put together the body and then attach wheels and lights and you’ve got the big car.
  • Rocket carts – It looks like you need to combine a rocket engine with a mine cart to get this Ultrahand build to work. You can add on multiple carts for extra stability.
  • Siege engines – use stone slabs to build a large rectangular box and put wheels on the bottom side. You can also add in attack options to the side like a jousting arm or projectile launcher.
