The Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword Switch how to rope swing, Skyview Temple

The Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword Switch Skyview Temple rope swing

If you’ve been struggling your way through Skyview Temple in The Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword HD on the Nintendo Switch, the rope swing towards the end may well be the final straw. No matter how hard you try, you can’t quite get enough distance to make the jump and you plummet to your doom only to re-spawn back on the ledge with the rope jump still to go.

Fret not though, because it can be done and it’s actually relatively easy once you understand the full range of mechanics involved in the ropes. The problem is that this is the first time you’ll need them all and there isn’t anything remotely resembling a tutorial to point you in the right direction. However, you can see below how to rope swing and how to make that jump.

How to make the Skyview Temple rope swing jump

To start things off, simply jump over to the first of the two rope swings. You do this by sprinting (hold B and move with the left stick) off the edge while facing in its direction. Once Link is holding onto the rope, stop everything! Press B and he will then stop swinging and just dangle on the rope. This changes the mechanics to be able to lower down the rope.

Now you can press down on the left stick to make Link slide further down the rope, which will give you a longer swing to be able to make the jump. Just remember not to slide too far down the rope. Once you get to the bottom, you can then start it swinging again by pressing forward on the right stick and then the timing will be key to landing the jump to the next rope.

Firstly, you need to build up a little speed with more forward and back presses with the right stick and then you need to use the left stick to get the angle right. Once you’ve got Link to point directly at the second rope swing, do a couple more presses of the right stick to give yourself some speed and press A to complete the jump.

This should land you at the bottom of the second rope and the next jump will be easy to make to get to the chest tucked away in the corner. Inside, you’ll find the key to use to open the big door and then there’s a vine climb to get back to the main path with the rope across to the door.

More rope swing mechanics

There isn’t much more to know about rope swings in The Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword HD. However, if you don’t already know, you can knock them down from the ceiling using Korok Seeds. The problem is that this burns through them a little quickly. A better alternative is to use the Beetle to fire at them and it will knock them down without using anything up.

This might be a bit of a no brainer too, but if you ever see a rope tied to the ground, you can free it with a simple swing of your sword. Lastly – and it’s got absolutely nothing to do with rope swings, but it’s one of the best tips for the game – you can replenish hearts by sitting down, so next time you see a chair or stool and you need a health boost, pop a squat and you’ll be good to go.
