Things get pretty tough at times when you get to Lanayru Desert in The Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword HD on the Nintendo Switch and this section where you need to know how to get the electric ball across the gap is one of the easiest to miss. While you can fudge it a little there’s a method that will see you across with ease, so the tips below should see you picking up the generator power switch without too many dramas.
The section comes as you enter the building to complete one of the power generator switches on the eastern side of Lanayru Desert. There are three in total and the other two are much easier than this one with a simple drop into the power pack for the other electric ball and then an even easier sword key move straight into the switch for the one across the desert.

How to get the electric ball creature across the gap to the power bay
If you’ve made it to the very end of the building on the east and you can see the power bay over the other side, but no way to get across, you may have gotten desperate. It easy to do. In fact the video below includes the fudge way to get the electric ball creature across by throwing it up over the platforms after you push down the block from the other side.
However, there’s a much easier way to get it across the gap without worrying about getting the electric blasts going off in Link’s hand as you try to get it up and over the blocks. The simple solution is just to pick it up with the Beetle tool and then drop it directly into the slot over on the other side.
AdvertisementSelect the tool with the wheel by holding down the R button and choosing it with the stick. Then you can fire it in the direction of the electric ball, which will pick it up, and then you can simply fly it across the gap. You’ll then need to get across yourself, but don’t worry, you can find out more about the next step in the section below if you get stuck.

How to get Link across the gap
For the next challenge, you’ll need to hit the crystal to change things back to the present time where you’ll find a sand snail. Take it out with a bomb and be ready to run for it as soon as it bites the dust. Only the snail inside the shell will actually kick it, so the shell itself will tip over and start to ride across the sand to the other side.
AdvertisementYou need to sprint to the shell before it gets too far away and before you succumb to the power of the desert floor yourself. Hop on top and you’ll be able to ride it across yourself to the other side. The confusion about the method to get the electric creature across the gap comes in the next section as you can then climb back around to the left using the blocks.
When you get to the end, you’ll find a block that you can push over the ledge creating a path across. As a result, it might appear as though you then use this route to get the electric ball across. However, this is a red herring and you can actually use the method discussed above to save yourself some heartache and depletion.
As mentioned above, you can see this in action in the video below, so make sure you follow the tips above for that section. However, the rest of it should show you how to get link across the gap and what to do after you and the electric ball are in place on the other side.
If you’re struggling with the rest of the power generator activation, you can see it all in the video above too. For the most part it’s relatively easy, except for the very last section. This is where you need to turn the dials to get the right settings to activate the power generator. Check out the last section of the video to see how to do this quickly.
