The Callisto Protocol how to dodge

The Callisto Protocol how to dodge

If you’re just setting out on your nightmarish prison journey or you’ve just hit a few too many enemies along the way you might be looking for a refresher on The Callisto Protocol how to dodge tutorial. The game does sort of talk you through this relatively early on, but it’s easily lost to the horrors you’ll experience, and it’s just as easy to miss the importance of getting it right.

Essentially, you play Jacob Lee, an inmate at Black Iron Prison on Jupiter’s second largest moon, Callisto, which is obviously where the name comes from. However, as soon are you’re wrongly incarcerated the joint gets overrun by alien zombies and you’re left to fend for yourself.

In The Callisto Protocol, there are definitely moves that you’re going to love much more than the dodge, but there’s only so far that you can get with that style of play. There are patches after the halfway point that will give you a number of tough enemies in one area, so landing your dodges is going to be crucial to survival.

How to dodge a single attack

To begin with, the enemies are early mutations, so they’re arsenal is pretty weak in comparison to the tanks you’ll face later in the game. As such, there will be plenty of occasions where you’ll just need to dodge a single attack.

How to dodge in The Callisto Protocol is a simple as tilting your left analogue stick either to the left or the right. There is no parry or perfect timing window, so you can hold the stick left or right as early as you want and keep it there until the enemy misses.

If you’re not too sure what part of the controller we’re talking about, it’s the thumb stick on the left. If you’re playing on PC you can check the binding from the options tab, but if you’re playing with a controller then it’s the same as with PlayStation and Xbox consoles, just pull the left analogue stick left or right.

Once you’ve dodged a single hit you can then get in your own combo of attacks with R2/RT. Try to get in at least two of these and then be ready for another dodge move. It’s possible to land a flurry combo, so feel free to play around with this to experiment with what works.

If your combo gets blocked at any point and you don’t have the block break upgrade in place then again get ready to dodge again.

There are also a number of fast moving enemies that don’t really give you an opportunity to get out of the way. With these you’re better off using your gun attacks, including GRP, which you can use to hurl enemies off ledges or into dangerous moving object.

How to dodge multiple attacks

Here’s where things get a little bit trickier in terms of how to dodge in The Callisto Protocol. However, don’t worry too much, because it’s still pretty straight forward to dodge them all after the first.

To do this, get in your first dodge with the left analogue stick using left or right and then for the second hit switch to the other direction. You can do this for three or more hits, switching direction for each one to get out of the way.

For example, if you start by pushing right on the left stick then you want to follow this us by pushing left for the second attack, right again for the third attack and so on. If you start by pushing left then it’s right for the second attack and left for the third.

Don’t worry about trying to match the direction to the dodge with the direction of the hit as both will result in Jacob getting out of the way. There are some enemies in the game that really go for it in one direction, but it doesn’t have any impact on what direction you choose to push.

With multiple attack dodges you really want to wait until the enemies combo has finished before you get in your own combos. You can be fancy and try to block the final hit to tee up the counter if you’ve got that unlocked, but it’s an advanced move and a bit fiddly to pull off, so give it a try if you want and be ready to ditch it if it doesn’t work for you.

In addition to being able to dodge, you can also block attacks, which The Callisto Protocol doesn’t touch on really. Just pull back on the left analogue stick and you’ll block. You still sustain damage, but it’s reduced.

You can upgrade your melee weapon to reduce the amount of damage you sustain during block, along with the final hit counter that’s mentioned above. However, the best approach is to land the dodge and time your combos nicely to get through most of the enemies in the game.
