The smash hit Broadway show, The Book of Morman, has been confirmed for a transfer to London and a sign-up has been created for fans to get exclusive priority pre-sale info about West End tickets. Written by the creators of South Park, Trey Parker and Matt Stone, The Book of Morman won 9 Tony Awards, including best musical in 2011.
Not content with making one of the most successful cartoon series of all time, Parker and Stone have turned their hands to theatre, teaming up with Avenue Q co-writer and composer, Robert Lopez, to create the religious satire musical, The Book of Morman. Poking fun at everything from religion to evil dictators and musicals themselves, the show is a sure fire hit for the west end.
The play follows Elder Kevin Price and Elder Arnold Cunningham, two young Mormon Missionaries, as they head off to a village in deepest, darkest Uganda to bring the Book of Mormon to its people. However, with evil warlords, famine and AIDS to contend with, they’re not exactly the instant salvation that they set out to be.
Though The Book of Mormon won’t be opening at the West End’s Prince of Wales Theatre until February 2013, a sign-up has been created by the producers for fans to put themselves down for tickets to the earlier preview shows. If Trey Parker and Matt Stone’s work on South Park and Team America are anything to go by, The Book of Mormon could well be 2013’s biggest, funniest and most outrageous West End show.
