Following on from last year’s reboot release, the news is already breaking on the sequel with The Amazing Spider-Man 2 out in 2014. With the franchise being such a big part of the Marvel comic book history, Stan Lee and co. were always going to look to reinvent the film structure for the webbed slinger when things started to move away from the Raimi series of films.
The release date has been set as the 2nd May 2014, so you’ve got more than a year to wait before it drops, but if the first picture is anything to go by (see right) it could be cool. By that time, who knows what new innovations will be developed for cinema (popcorn that can be ordered through little trap doors under your seats, multi-vision so your girlfriend can watch a chick-flick while you watch Die Harderer, alarm buttons for every seat for when psychos come and sit next to you half way through a film and start peeling the top of a Coke bottle with a Stanley knife), but it will more than likely get a pretty impressive 3D version either way.
Andrew Garfield will be back in the red and blue spandex as Peter Parker/Spider-Man with Mar Webb back in the director’s chair. There’ll be a few other returning for the cast of the sequel, including Emma Stone as Spidey’s first GF, Gwen Stacey, and Sally Field as Aunt May.
However, the real news is that Jamie Foxx will be the main bad guy for the film, pulling out lesser known super villain, Electro, and the word on the street is that Paul Giamatti has brilliantly been cast as thug bad guy, The Rhino. There’s also news that Mary Jane Watson will be making a showing in The Amazing Spider-Man 2.
With the big box office success of the original film, what’s shaping up to be an impressive cast and Marc Webb back in charge, the sequel could be another big release for the Marvel movie train. Can’t wait to see how Stan Lee manages to write another cameo for himself in this one!
