Street artist, Stinkfish’s first solo show in London is about to open today at High Roller Society, North of Mile End tube stop. The exhibition is entitled Espina, which is Spanish for thorn, which acts as the theme for work looking at the jagged defences people carry around with them.
Opening on the 27th October 2012 with a short run until the 11th November 2012, Espina is made up of a series of portraits of anonymous people that he finds in the street that show the spiny thorns that are evident from the looks on their faces. From black razor thorns to a variety of different colours, the espinas are a big part of Stinkfish’s interpretation of the street and the people that live in it.
The portraits are made up of the artefacts that Stinkfish finds on the streets, including old photographs, magazines and album covers. The abstract combines with social realism to deliver his take on walking the street. Vibrant colours are a big part of his street art, so expect Espina to be vivid as well as stacked with dark symbolism.
High Roller Society’s gallery displaying the exhibition is open from noon until 6pm, Thursday to Sunday. The address is 10 Palmers Road London Borough of Tower Hamlets, E2 0SY with both Mile End and Bethnal Green tube stations within walking distance.
In conjunction with the Espina exhibition, Stinkfish is also releasing a new print that will be available at the High Roller Society gallery during the course of the installation.
