Star Wars Jedi Survivor final boss guide

Star Wars Jedi Survivor final boss

With the launch of the game, here’s everything you need to know about the Star Wars Jedi Survivor final boss fight. Now that the release date has come and gone we know who it is and how to defeat them, but there was already a few leads to follow to help us work it out Sherlock-style prior to the launch.

The last game kept things under wraps right until the end, and that was the case for Star Wars Jedi Survivor. The new final boss had a lot to live up to, because it was an unstoppable Darth Vader that Cal faced at the end of Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order.

While that sort of set a president that had to be followed or bettered, that hasn’t stopped developers Respawn from going its own way for the final boss fight. We had plenty of trailers and footage before the release, but a lot of this was misdirection.

Obviously, it’s impossible to discuss the final boss fight without giving away the ending, so if you’re looking to stay spoiler free then now’s the time to back out. For everyone else, you can check out the details below to find who the final boss is and how to beat it.

Star Wars Jedi Survivor picks up with Cal Kestis five years after the events of Fallen Order. He continued to be a thorn in the side of the Empire since then and the 2nd game in the series sees him returning fire right from the very beginning.

The action takes place in between the prequel trilogy and the original trilogy. Fallen Order was 5 years after Star Wars Episode III Revenge of the Sith, so this makes it ten years after the rise of the Emperor. Luke and Leia are ten years old and being protected by Obi Wan Kenobi and the Organas.

This is in line with the events of the Obi Wan Kenobi TV series, so we initially though that Darth Vader could be too busy with that to get involved with the events of Survivor. As it turns out, the second in command in the Empire does show up on the game, but he isn’t the final boss.

With the game out, we’ve already been able to defeat the final boss fight, so we’ll be including tips on how to defeat him. You can also check out the link below for the rest of the bosses in the game, which includes some general tips to help you start things off well. Obviously, if you don’t want to know who it’s going to be, this is not the post for you.

After that, we’ll talk through the story and trailer details and discuss what this tried to imply for the ending to the 2nd game in the series. We’ll then follow it up with some thoughts on how Star Wars Jedi 2 could have one-upped the clash with Darth Vader to land bigger than it did.

Who is the final boss fight in Star Wars Jedi Survivor?

It’s with a heavy heart of sadness that we can confirm that the final boss fight in the main campaign for Star Wars Jedi Survivor is Bode Akuna. He’s one of Cal’s support line-up for large parts of the game, but you get a few tells that he’s more than he says he is during the Koboh missions.

He ultimately double crosses everyone, bringing the Empire to the Hidden Path’s doorstep to create a distraction to get away with the High Republic way-finder to get through the nebula protecting Tanalorr. He was sent to infiltrate the operation by the Imperial Intelligence having been a tool for the Dark Side since the Clone Wars.

How to beat the final boss fight, Bode Akuna?

You can check out the video below to get some tips on how to beat Bode Akuna as the final boss fight in Star Wars Jedi Survivor. He’s a Jedi with strong Force powers, lightsaber skills and blaster capabilities, so he’s pretty well-rounded.

He may not be as tough as Darth Vader was, but his move set is more intricate with a lot of variation to take into account. In the first couple of phases, it’s all about blocking and getting in your attacks, because you don’t need to bring down his stamina to do damage.

This changes subtly when you get the full might of Bode in the final phases when his stamina is a big key to beating him. You can chip away at him with well-times surprise hits, but he blocks most attacks and has a wide array of fast combos and unblockable moves of his own.

Block, parry and evade as much as possible and be ready to counter. Use Force Push to add to the stamina offensive and when it drops you get some free hits that you need to capitalise on.

Surprise damage can be achieved when he crouches and then jumps into the air. Dodge it and be ready to get back in fast and you’ll do a nice amount of damage against Bode.

Some of his hits will break your stamina fast, so dodging or evade is sometimes more important than blocking and pushing for a parry. You can then use your lunge move to get back in close fast to counter.

May sure you jump over his Force ground wave. This is usually followed by his Force swipes, so dodge the first two and if he winds up for a third jump it and get in to get some hits in.

Cycle your health stims when you need them and you can use your Slow when a dangerous attack is coming in to negate the impact. This will then give you a chance to start a charge on his stamina and get in some more surprise damage.

Trailer and early game hints at the final boss

There were two main contenders for the Star Wars Jedi Survivor final boss from the trailers and early game, and it was clear that they were working together on some grand plan. The first of these is a large Gen’dai called Rayvis who thinks that Jedi are supposed to be dead and the second is a former Jedi Knight of the Old Republic called Dagan Gera who’s plan sees him set against Cal.

The Gen’dai are made up of a tentacle nervous system encased in armor with no organs and the ability to regenerate their body, so they’re ridiculously difficult to kill. Anakin Skywalker took one down in The Clone Wars by trapping it and using the force to send it to its death in a star.

Dagan Gera has Force abilities and a lightsaber, so this added to his potential as the final boss. They’re both very powerful, so it could have theoretically gone either way. However, the whole setup seems way more complicated with the man asking Cal how the Jedi could have let the Galaxy fall to the Empire.

From this we can infer that they might not be out-and-out villains and it seems like Dagan Gera sort of has his own agenda to fight the might of the Emperor eventually. Add to that the fact that Gera used to be a Jedi in the Old Republic and you’ve got a potential anti-hero setup.

You can see them crossing paths with Cal in the trailers with gameplay of a fight against the Gen’Dai and a cut-scene with Gera trying to use the Force to get a device from Cal. There’s definitely beef between the two sides, but we just weren’t convinced it’s enough to make for the final boss fight in Star Wars Jedi Survivor.

As you can see above, neither of these turn out to be the final boss fight in the game. However, they are the main antagonists for large portions of Star Wars Jedi Survivor and you have to face them both in boss fights before the double cross.

In fact, you have to fight Dagan Gera a total of three times with each one getting progressively tougher. You can see our guide to the fight at www.tuppencemagazine.co.uk/star-wars-jedi-survivor-how-to-beat-dagan-gera-3/ to get some tips on how to defeat him in his last and toughest battle.

More early game hints at a potential final boss

Early on in the game you get taken to a Pau’an senator on Coruscant who had the potential to be the final boss in Star Wars Jedi Survivor. However, it felt like a low chance event then. He was pretty spineless and easily influenced by the force, so wouldn’t have made the best big bad without a massive journey of discovery.

It was possible that there could have been more to him than meets the eye. It was also possible that his power could have grown throughout the game, but ultimately, he’s a bit part player that isn’t seen again after the opening sequence in Coruscant.

How they could have topped Darth Vader as the final boss

That gave us more than enough doubt about the others being the Star Wars Jedi Survivor final boss and hints at something similar to the ending of Fallen Order. It was possible that we might have see another scrap with Darth Vader to close things out, but this actually came a little before the end battle with Bode.

The fight with Vader, which you can see below, is one of the best in the game and does a great job of building on the excitement of the end sequences of Fallen Order. This leads on to how the game could have gone one better and there’s only really one option here and that’s the Emperor himself.

It would have been an epic tussle to finish off the new game and deliver the same kind of impact as the Vader reveal last time around. However, af the series is going to be a trilogy it didn’t make sense to go straight to the Emperor for the second one. Surely, this would be a boss fight for the third game.

However, there just weren’t any credible alternatives, which is probably why Respawn and EA Games had to go in a new direction for part 2. Dagan Gera, Rayvis and Darth Vader all strong fights in themselves and Bode is tough to close out Star Wars Jedi Survivor.

It may not have been what we were hoping for, but it worked out well in the end. It made for a sad story overall with so many losses along the way and the ultimate downfall of Bode. It clearly isn’t easy trying to be a Jedi Knight.
