If you’re a fan of amazing songs like Up The Junction or Cool For Cats then the fact that Squeeze will be kicking off their At Odds Couple UK tour shortly will be a little chunk of good news to stave off the onset of the winter blues. For anyone not familiar with the songs, you should probably stop reading now, hunt down the tracks and come back again another day when you’ve discovered your newfound appreciation for 70s new wave pop rock.
The tour dates are scheduled to start at the end of October with three warm-up gigs to get the band up to a white heat level of stage control. The first of the three is at the East Wintergarden in Canary Wharf, London on the 29th October 2014, which has already sold out, before they move on to the Norwich Arts Centre on the 30th and the Eastbourne Hippodrome on the 31st. The full tour itself will kickstart on the 2nd November at the Cambridge Corn Exchange, and it’ll run on until the final gig at the Warwick Arts Centre on the 19th November 2014.
The bad news for any Londoners is that all three of the Union Chapel gigs have sold out already, with the last of them only recently added, but selling out almost as soon as it arrived. The Guildford G-live, Birmingham Town Hall, Edinburgh Queens Hall and Manchester Salford Lowry gigs have also sold out, so if you’re a big fan of the band and you’ve missed out on getting tickets you might need to travel a little to catch them live. Full tour dates are below for more details on which shows are still available.
The current Squeeze line-up consists of Stephen Large on keyboard, Glenn Tilbrook on guitar and, Chris Difford also on guitar and vocals, John Bentley on bass and Simon Hanson on drums. Tilbrook and Difford are the only two members of the original line-up that started the band back in 1974, and make up the two man writing duo that created all of the band’s hits during the seventies and eighties.
In addition to all of the classic Squeeze tracks, the tour dates will also probably be a good opportunity to hear some of the band’s newer material live. While they haven’t necessarily been prolific in terms of writing new songs, they did release a 4 song EP CD back in 2012 called Packet Of Four.
