In the recent Nintendo Direct, we got to see a whole lot more about the third entry in the series, and with the recent release, here’s everything you need to know about the Splatoon 3 final boss fight. If you played the campaign story in the previous game then you’ll know that there are a number of bosses to take on and it all culminates in an epic final battle of inkpressive proportions.
A lot of the action in Splatoon games revolves around the multiplayer modes where you fight it out in teams of four in matches like Turf War or Tower Control. However, it also comes with the added fun of a single-player campaign mode, which kind of acts as a training and tutorial to help you get to grips with the many weapons and moves you have in your arsenal.
AdvertisementSplatoon 3 is no different and to start with it seems as though the nefarious Octarians are behind the mayhem having been trounced at the end of the last campaign mission. This time, they’re back and far hairier than ever, which is no mean feat for walking octopus tentacles, so it makes sense that the final boss fight would explain their new look.

Who is the Splatoon 3 final boss?
If you played the previous game’s story campaign to the end then you’ll know that the Octarians are ruled by their leader, DJ Octavio. He spearheaded an assault on Inkopolis, captured the Zapfish that powered the city and made off with Callie, one half of the band and hosts, Off the Hook.
AdvertisementFor the final boss in Splatoon 2, you had to fight DJ Octavio and a brainwashed Callie, who had been converted to the Octarian cause thanks to the Hypnoshades she was forced to wear. Combined, they made for a formidable end fight for Agent 4, attacking you in a giant hovering disco wagon of doom with flying fists of fury to contend with.
The logical assumption for Splatoon 3 was that DJ Octavio would be back once again and looking for revenge with more Zapfish plundering antics. The reality, though, is that while he’s definitely in the mix early on, the hair on the Octarians is more than enough to hint at there being more to this one.
AdvertisementIn both of the previous campaign stories, the Octarians are smooth as a baby octopus, but in 3 they’ve got more hair than Tom Selleck and Russell Brand’s little-discussed love child. Clearly something has happened since their last defeat to give them such a bushy barnet and it has major implications for the final boss fight.
There are more clues in the title for the Splatoon 3 campaign, which is called The Return of the Mammalians, so things are going to be different this time around. As it turns out, the Mammalians is a reference to the final boss himself, Mr Grizz, who is the sole surviving mammal on the planet.
He’s been working away to bring back more of his kind and with mutated intelligence he’s crafted a fuzzy ooze that turns things mammalian. This includes the new enemy type that is the Octarians fused with follicle abundance that you’ll have to fight your way through to the end.
You’ll face Mr Grizz at the final boss fight when you make it through all of the areas and eventually make it to the center island. You’ll have to climb the floors to the top of the rocket, fighting your way through all the way, and then you’ll get the story ending with the giant bear.
Splatoon 3 comes to a close with a battle with the big beast on the rocket as he jets off to unleash his mammalian mutating ooze on what’s left of the world. This is just the first parth, though, and you’ll then have to team up with DJ Octavio to finish him off with the help of a super-sized Small Fry.
How to beat the Splatoon 3 final boss
With the Splatoon 3 final boss now officially confirmed, you can check out the video below to see the whole fight against Mr Grizz, which should give you a few solid tips on how to beat it.
There are two distinct phases to make it through with the first being on on the rocket itself and the second being on DJ Octavio’s ship. The strategy notes below can be added to the video to show you exactly what you need to do to defeat it.
- There are usually three phases to any Splatoon boss fight, and that’s the case for each of the two sections the final boss in 3.
- Try not to get greedy in any one attacks. Get in some damage and get set to dodge the next one.
- Patience is key if you don’t want to hit too many times. Some attacks won’t give you any time to return fire, so simply dodge it and wait for an easier pass to come in the next attack.
