Every now and again, Christmas shopping throws up a surprise or two and that was definitely the case with the pictures above and below, which links Nick Fury, Mysterio and Vulture to Spider-Man No Way Home. They’re of new Lego toys for the film and while you might be inclined to get excited about the prospect of the characters featuring in the film, we can now confirm that they’re just throwbacks to Far From Home.
The good news is that we don’t have that long to wait to find out for sure with the release date scheduled for the 15th December 2021 in the UK and the 17th in the US. If the characters are indeed in the film, which we think might be the case, the toys seems to link Fury and Mysterio fairly significantly with Nick driving the car and Quentin Beck controlling his crazy drones as part of the same scene.
AdvertisementThe discovery follows on from our recent feature on the Spider-Man No Way Home toys, which up until now hadn’t really given anything away about the film, apart from there maybe being some kind of giant bug to fight in the Sanctum Sanctorum. The Lego set featured above changes all of that and it’s one of two new toys that frame Mysterio and his drones as being central to the story with the addition of Nick Fury to act as backup to Peter and Doctor Strange.
What do the Nick Fury, Mysterio and Vulture toys mean for the No Way Home story
Obviously you shouldn’t read on if you don’t want to actually know how the Nick Fury, Mysterio and Vulture toys could impact the plot for Spider-Man No Way Home, but in general their addition could have seismic ramifications on the story. You can probably imagine the scenarios yourself, but we’re going to lay out a couple of theories that could well explain it all.
AdvertisementFirstly, the last we saw of Mysterio was that he died at the end of Spider-Man Far From Home in a bid to expose Peter Parker as your friendly neighborhood Web-Guy. We also saw Nick Fury in the post-credits scene at the end of the film and he’s been off world working on a Skrull spaceship, leaving shapeshifting Talon and Soren to impersonate him and Maria Hill here on earth.
If Mysterio is back then it would appear as though he managed to fake his own death with a plan to retrieve the footage from the drones and use it for his next attempt to get to Peter Parker. If that’s the case then he could well be the missing sixth villain in the film and possibly the main man orchestrating everything using his drone hologram imaging technology.
AdvertisementThe addition of Nick Fury would imply that he does in fact return to earth following the plea from Talon and he manages to figure it all out in time to help sort out the mess. It’s possible that the Nick Fury we can see as part of the toy set pictured above is Talon, but we suspect not and it’ll be the real deal eye patch S.H.I.E.L.D chief returning to the fray.
The second new Lego set is called Spider-Man’s Drone Duel and it features him controlling a drone to fight a very different looking Vulture. The last time we saw Vulture, he was locked up in prison and seemed to want to keep Spider-Man’s identity a secret, maybe implying that he’d sort of turned over a new leaf after Peter saved his life. Either the Vuture in No Way Home is the same one and he’s broken out and gone after Spider-Man, or it’s a new alternate version of Andrian Toomes from another universe that travels through the tears towards the end of the film.

Does the addition of Nick Fury, Mysterio and Vulture mean the multiverse is a hologram
This could technically be the ultimate twist in the film, but we suspect not necessarily. It is possible, but it doesn’t really fit in with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The film is scheduled for a release date in spring 2022 and should see Stephen Strange continuing to grapple with the problem of the multiverse, which he and Peter inadvertently let rip in Spider-Man No Way Home.
The addition of Vulture in the second set makes us think this could be a different version of him, which adds more weight to the multiverse story. Assuming the arrival of Doc Oc, Green Goblin and gang is legitimate then the multiple universes will be outside of Mysterio’s grand plan, so he’ll be scrambling to adjust if he is back from the dead.
The other thing to consider is that the last we saw of Vulture was in prison talking to his buyer Mac Gargan, who had been captured by Spider-Man and vowed revenge on him for putting him away. It’s a character that has largely been forgotten about, so again he could make an appearance in No Way Home with connections to Mysterio or Vulture, depending on how it all shakes out.
With Vulture and Mysterio in the mix, that would take the villain count up to seven, but then the Sinister Six has historically had different numbers of members with as many as twelve at one time. The other thing to take into account is that some of the villains in the trailer may not actually be villains in the end with so much mixed intentions. Doctor Octopus, for example, looks as though he’s going to be out of the equation for large parts of the film as he’s being held underneath the Sanctum Sanctorum.
However it all comes together, Spider-Man No Way Home is shaping up to have a lot more to it than meets the eye from the trailers.
