Spider-Man Across The Spider-Verse trailer reviews

Spider-Man Across The Spider-Verse reviews

The film isn’t out until June, so if you’re looking for Spider-Man Across the Spider-Verse reviews the best you’ve got to go on is the trailer. The first look teaser trailer arrived back in December 2021 and it was followed recently with the full trailer in December 2022.

They’ve both been hugely popular with 15 million views on the teaser and a massive 32 million views in its first few months. That’s a pretty good sign that there’s a whole lot of love for the sequel to Spider-Man Into the Spider-Verse, but we’ll get onto more on the reviews a little further down.

Before then, there’s a lot to take from the videos themselves. To start with there are currently nearly 28,000 comments on the trailer below and the vast majority of them are positive.

Some refer to the influence of the animated Spider-Man films on the live action series. It’s easy to see the influence of Into the Spider-Verse in No Way Home, which went on to be the biggest Spidey film in the history of the franchise.

We’re expecting this to be paid back with Across the Spider-Verse, which looks set to build on that success with a lot of hype for what come next for Miles Morales. It’s still early to call, but there’s definitely scope for it to go on to be a billion dollar movie, which would be very impressive.

The inspiration from the first film went even further than its influence on the MCU with other comments talking about how much it meant to them on an individual basis. From the look of the trailer, we’re going to get even more of the Spidey-senses tingling atmosphere that made Into the Spider-Verse such a sleeper hit.

There’s also a lot of hype for the action sequences in the trailer, which were a big part of the positive reviews the first film got. It looks like Spider-Man Across the Spider-Verse is going to dial this up to 11 with even more incarnations of the friendly neighbourhood web-slinger and a plot that sees them somehow at odds with Miles.

Trailer review

The best thing about the trailer is the focus on the people side of the story with a lot of emphasis on character development. It’s something that’s easily missed in modern day superhero flicks with films like Shazam Fury of the Gods leaning too heavily on comedy and action and not enough on the characters and what makes them tick.

That’s not to say that Spider-Man Across the Spider-Verse is going to be lacking in fast-paced action sequences, big movie moments or comedy, it’s just that they won’t be the focal points. It was a similar situation with Thor Love and Thunder and Ant-Man and the Wasp Quantumania and we’re hoping Marvel and DC will pick up on the downward trend pretty soon.

It worked well for the first Guadians of the Galaxy film, but when so many of them follow in the same books it all just kind of falls apart. The good news is that’s not the case here and we should be in for a character driven narrative with light and shade to create actuals stakes in the action sequences and affinity for the comic moments.

As with the first film, the animation is a dream, combining excellent detail and more abstract or surreal features with comic book style. It’s completely unique and looks amazing on the big screen, so we’re counting down the clock to the June release date.

More reviews and reactions

The good news is that there has been a lot of trailer reaction to add to the initial reviews for Spider-Man Across the Universe. The Cyber Nerds did a big trailer reaction video that saw them re-watching the trailer more than once with a lot if appreciation for tge Spider-Man melee scene with all of the chasing Miles.

They’ve got a lot of Marvel comic book knowledge if you’re looking to fill in any gaps on the film. There’s also an early shout for Spider-Man Across the Spider-Verse being the best trailer of 2023 and a prediction for the film being in the top two for the year when it comes out in June, so they’re pretty psyched.

If that isn’t enough to get you all in on the film, you might want to check out the trailer reaction mashup below. The Stan Lee love is well worth seeing in the first few seconds alone, but the way they all hype at the big moments is enough to add to the viewpoint that we might be looking at one if the year’s big success stories at the box office.

The notes at the end are worth sticking around for, because we could be looking at Sony Pictures Animation’s biggest film to-date. If the success of No Way Home is anything to go by then the excitement around Spider-Man Across the Spider-Verse could result in even more positive reviews and wird of mouth for the sequel.

What’s clear is that there’s a lot of appreciation for the series and more than enough appetite for more films in the future, so it’s going to be interesting to see whether or not they tease something inthe credits scenes again. The Gwen return sequence at the end of Into the Spider-Verse was enough kick start things for Across and we’ll be surprissd if it doesn’t happen again.

We’ll update you with more details on the film classification as they get confirmed. You can also check out our movie news section to keep tabs on the latest upcoming films, or visit the Sony Pictures website at https://www.sonypictures.com/.
