Spectrals June 2013 gigs and new album announced

With second album, Sob Story, out on the 3rd June 2013, Spectrals will be rolling out on an 8 gig UK tour from early June. Spanning between London, Glasgow and Bristol with stops in between, the short tour will be one of the first chances to hear the Heckmondwike, Yorkshire band’s latest material.

June:

4th – Birthdays, London
5th – Brudenell Social Club, Leeds
6th – Deaf Institute, Manchester
7th – University, Newcastle
8th – King Tuts, Glasgow
9th – The Studio, Hartlepool
11th – The Louisiana, Bristol
12th – Scholars Bar, Leicester

The gigs see Spectrals supporting Frankie & the Heartstrings, but our shout is that they’ll be the real headliners of the shows, no matter which band is on first. Especially considering the potential that the first listens to the band’s new material points towards. The first gig of the tour comes with the added benefit that tickets are free, so visit https://rockfeedback.ticketabc.com/events/spectrals/ if you want to get in on the action.

You can listen to the rock ‘n’ roll infused garage band style of lead single from their upcoming album, A Heartbeat Behind, below to decide for yourself on their new work. It’s got thunder drums and great rhythm, as well as smart lyrics and catchy vocals that talk of being “a heartbeat behind for most of my life”. There’s Marc Bolan feel to things that’s more a credit than a simple copycat and the riffs will wriggle a little deeper under your skin after every listen.

Sob Story was recorded with former Girls’ bassist, Chet White, and will build on their 2011 album debut, Bad Penny. While the album isn’t released until June, just ahead of the UK tour, you’ll be able to get the first single from the 27th May 2013.

Spectrals are lead by Louis Jones, who kicked things off with his brother, Will, to combine his time in post punk bands with his love of doo wop, soul, pop and garage rock, which is evident in abundance in A Heartbeat Behind, which combines The Ramones, T-Rex and The Ronettes. There’s obviously a vintage sound to their music, but there’s always a little room for vintage when it’s done as well as on their first single from Sob Story.
