Sonic The Hedgehog movie Puma trainers collaboration with The Shoe Surgeon

To celebrate the arrival of the Sonic The Hedgehog movie on the big screen, Paramount pictures has teamed up with Puma and The She Surgeon to create some very cool new Sonic trainers. They’ve also packaged it all up in a nice video for the collaboration, which you can watch in full below, giving you another little reminder of how much effort they’ve put into doing Sonic fans proud.

It adds to the mammoth amounts of CGI work that will have gone into rescuing the Sonic film with a major redesign for the title character after a backlash from fans when the initial trailer came out. In all fairness to paramount, it’s one of the few times in movie history where the creators of a film have made such significant changes based on fan feedback. Maybe if the Cats movie had done the same it wouldn’t have been nominated for quite so many Golden Raspberry Awards.

All that aside, and getting back to the cooler topic of Puma trainers, the collaboration with The Shoe Surgeon has resulted in some genuinely impressive footwear. They’re modelled on Sonic’s shoes from the movie, which you can just about see in the image below, but they’re based on the same trainers that the Blue Blur has been rocking since the Sega Megadrive days.

However, they’ve also been put together using Puma’s outsole, so they’re the perfect computer game merch crossover, combining the look with solid function to actually be able to run in them. There’s an added touch of style with the socks that you can see being packaged up with the trainers in the video, which add to the authenticity of the look.

The only thing that’s missing is seeing someone fast actually wearing them and hitting their top speed. Obviously, Usain Bolt would be the perfect candidate, but if the guys at Paramount, Puma or The Shoe Surgeon are looking for some models, we can definitely hook them up with a whippet-fast jogger hear at Tuppence.

The bad news, though, is that the Sonic movie trainers are a one of a kind deal, custom made to celebrate the release of the film, which means you’re not going to be able to pick them up at your local sneaker store. However, if you’re desperate, you can always just pick up a pair of red Puma Fierce Core or Electron and get the thickest gym socks you can find, fold them over and hey presto you’ve got a pretty good likeness.

You’ll have to print off your own amazing Sonic icon packaging to go with it, but it’s pretty doable if you’re in for the long hard yards. They say the only way to really get to know someone is to walk a mile in their shoes, but for StH that would only take a few seconds, so we’re not sure the old saying applies here.
