Back with a new entry in a long line of genius Discworld novels, Terry Pratchett returns to city watch commander, Sam Vimes, in Snuff, just in time for Christmas 2011. If you’ve never read one of Terry Pratchett’s fantasy fiction novels, you’ll need to do a little backtracking, but for everyone else the release of Snuff is probably a bit eagerly awaited.
Snuff follows Vimes on his holiday to the countryside. However, as predicted by the best selling crime fiction writer in Ankh-Morpork, it doesn’t take him long to stumble across his first body. When one turns to many, Sam must face something more sinister than homicide.
Terry Pratchett’s Discworld novels have been hitting the shelves since 1983 with the release of The Colour of Magic. However, the city watch series, including the main character of Commander Sam Vimes, didn’t come in until 1989 with Guards! Guards!
Snuff is the 8th Ankh-Morpork city watch series novel and it sounds like it’s getting a twist in the addition of holiday homicide. They’re always a classic read andSnuff is no exception. Released in hardback on the 13th october 2011, Terry Pratchett’s Snuff paperback release is scheduled for July 2012.
With Vimes off on holiday, a lot of the other City Watch characters don’t feature much in the book, which is a bit of a shame. However, Snuff seems to have pulled this off in a similar way to Night Watch, when Vimes was catapulted to the past without the rest of his band of merry men (and women, trolls, golums etc. etc.). Hopefully, Terry Pratchett will come back to some of the other characters in later publications.
