That’s right, Ron’s Gone Wrong! How wrong, we’re still working out, but with a UK release date coming up, here’s everything we know about the animated film, including the latest on the age rating and our parents guide. You can also find out more about the story, cast and runtime, as well as our more in depth assessment on the general wrongness of Ron.
The story is set a little in the future as a new advanced home robot, the B-bot, is unleashed on the world. This is no T1000 computer takeover, though, as they seem to be working out pretty well for everyone that gets one. Everyone except for Barney whose dad gives him one as a late birthday present. We’re not being judgy, but that’s a pretty expensive birthday present, but hey, it sets up the plot at least.
AdvertisementThe problem is that Barney’s B-bot, which he calls Ron, goes doolally tap, leaving Barney with the fallout. Going back to the question about how wrong the little robot has gone, well you can see it throttling a chicken at one point in the trailer, so its pretty haywire. All of this pushes the socially awkward kid out of his comfort zone, and sets things up for a sweet animated buddy movie… maybe (insert chicken sad face).
Cast
The cast for Ron’s Gone Wrong is a mix of big names and new faces with Zak Galafianakis playing Ron and Jack Dylan Grazer playing Barney. Grazer builds on his success in Shazam! and his role as Alberto in Luca, plus he’ll be back in action in Shazam! Fury of the Gods in 2023. Ed Helms plays Barney’s dad and they’re all joined by Olivia Coleman, Justice Smith, Rob Delaney and Marcus Scribner.

Ron’s Gone Wrong UK release date
Inevitably, the UK release date has moved a number of times of the last year and a half with the COVID pandemic having such a huge impact on the film industry. However, it is now confirmed to arrive on the big screen on Friday the 15th October 2021, so there’s not that much time to go. It was originally slated for release on the 6th November 2020, so it’s a little under a year delay, which isn’t too bad in the current climate.
It’s got some pretty tough competition though with Venom 2 out on the same weekend and Dune (2021) releasing a week later. However, neither of these are in the same space as Ron’s Gone Wrong, so they shouldn’t do too much to deflect it’s potential. The Boss Baby 2: Family Business will also get it’s debut on the big screen on the 22nd, though, so that will have an impact in week 2 for the film.
AdvertisementIt’ll be out in the US on the same date as in the UK, so there’s no difference to take into account – not that there’s too much spoiler commentary for family animated entertainment.
With the autumn release, it should arrive on DVD, Blu-ray and digital in spring 2022, so aim for March and you won’t be too far away from the mark. This should make it just in time for Easter.

UK age rating and parents guide
The British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) has confirmed the Ron’s Gone Wrong UK age rating as a PG with the release date coming up. It’s higher than previous 20th Century Studios animation films like Ice Age: Collision Course and The Book of Life, which were both classified U, so clearly the chicken business has had an impact along the way.
Looking at the parents guide, the notes include mild rude humour, threat and bullying. The whole chicken throttling scene is probably the most controversial part, but then Ron does go on to say that he shouldn’t be doing it, so hopefully he learns the error of his ways pretty quickly. He’s not great at crossing the road either, though, as he gets a bit run over part way through, so if you’re a parent and you’re still dealing with the green cross code then this could be a talking point.
We’ll update you with more details on the film as they get confirmed. You can also check out our movie news section to keep tabs on the latest upcoming films, or visit the 20th Century Studios website at https://www.20thcenturystudios.com/.
Runtime
The runtime for Ron’s Gone Wrong has been confirmed to be 1 hour 46 minutes, so it’s a little longer than the average animated film.
